From some reports we can clearly see that a lack of sleep may cause many health problems, especially for adolescents. The problem has gained extensive attention of the society. According to my experience, I learn that a long-term lack of sleep will not make us tired but also make it difficult for us to adapt to school. Even worse, we are at the risk of developing dangerous behavior such as depression, smoking and so on. What's your opinion on this topic?

Sleep is an important part of our life. Sleep is the time when our body, cells, and organs are re-charged. Sleep gives our body the moment to repair itself. A lack of sleep primarily affects our immune system. Thus, when we lack sleep, our body has not fully recharged and repair the wear and tear brought about by our daily activities. When our immune system is down, we easily get sick or disease and viruses attack our bodies and organs.

I didn't know that, but it's an interesting topic. How many hours of sleep is considered "unhealthy"? I think you're supposed to get about 8 hours of sleep every night, right? But if someone gets 6 hours of sleep, would that run the risk of developing dangerous behaviour as you sai,d or would it have to be more like 3 or 4 hours of sleep every night?

Yes, I think we should get about 8 hours of sleep at every night. Children should take more than 10 hours. As I know, if people who lack sleep for a long time. Not only the poor efficiency will be in the work, but also these people will be easier getting old than the others. What's more, some diseases will be happen to the people that they lack sleep for a long time.

I would imagine the lack of sleep leading to health hazards as I am one when I do not get enough I feel like a zombie. I have been known to have troubles at times and this instantly causes me to loose sleep. I can stay awake for 4 days straight, up worrying but then on the forth day I speak with gibberish as my body is alarming me that if I do not get more sleep it will instantly shut down and I will not have control.
I suppose 8 hours would be best but as long as I get 5 - 6 I feel I am okay. So I would imagine the amounts vary form person to person. But interesting about the lack that can lead to habitual habits, this I was not aware of.

I've always thought that was pretty obvious, it's something I easily noticed as a kid when I would stay up late and got up early the next day I tended to feel unwell. Sleeps very important, we recover from being busy and it helps to restore our energy levels.
Kudos

Absolutely sure there is a relationship between sleep and health. This is speaking from personal experience. I feel better when I sleep earlier compared to sleeping later with the same number of hours of sleep. Hence, I believe the saying that from 11pm to 2pm, it is better we asleep as something is going on inside our body..

yeah absolutely, with sleep the body recovers forces and stays healthy. If you sleep less, you can have problems in the longer term. It can also happen that every person needs a certain amount of sleep, normally around 7-8 hours, but some even less. Everyone should know the amount of sleep needed to prevent deseases

Yep, I have heard this...from the doctor...read about it and I honestly do believe it. I wish I could get 8 hrs of sleep or more. I just have so much stuff crammed into my day that I dont actually get in bed until late and then I have to kinda relax a bit before I go to sleep so I either read or watch a bit of tv, which actually puts me goin to sleep even later.
Ive tried to schedule myself better but it never does work out for me.

sleeping has its effect, helps in improving health condition like fatigue, wounds or any other body pains, resting keeps our body cells in repairing status. and prevent from over working to tiredness. of course noone can stay awake all time, your body too needs recharging like a batter or else it shuts down. normally we humans need at least 8 hrs sleep it may differ from age. but most important to take rest when you feel tired or over worked, like wise a sign that tells you to sleep is yawning which says to go to bed now.

Lack of sleep for a long term is very bad for health. One of the common way of torture in some prisons were to prevent the prisoner from getting asleep. This can lead to hallucinations and other psychological troubles. A good sleep is without interruptions and at the hour you feel like sleeping. Sleeping hours before midnight are also very important for health as they are the most regenerating.

When I was younger, my mother told me to sleep 8-10 hours at night and when I was teenager, I had to sleep 8 hours in a day. My mother told me that I have to sleep between 10pm-4am because these are the hours that makes me feel relax. Well I don't know with my Mom but I think it helped a lot!

Of course I agree with you mate. Whenever I don't get enough sleep, I will feel dizzy and unwell the next day, my mood would be very unstable, I easily get angry and annoyed. I even will feel like my body is just as light as leaf but my headache is killing at the same time and feels like vomiting every second. Having enough sleep everyday is definitely important. I always make sure having more than seven hours of sleep each day. There was one time that I controlled my sleep in order to study more, and I only got ill than remembering everything that I learnt. Good topic!
Have a nice day

I think that's why God put so much importance on a day of rest. He knew that we needed time to recuperate.

Yes. Sleep is very important, but the problem is what must we do so that we could sleep at least, 8 hours a day if we have lots of work to do? Like for example, in call center here in our country. My best friend is working as a call center and she didn't have enough sleep. She told me that she slept 5 hours a day and every 'day-off' she sleeps the whole day and another is she would think of going to mall with us even if she lacks of sleep. I can't tell tell her that she must rest and sleep because she would just tell me that she don't want to stay at the house and the reason is she wants us all to be together in mall to have some fun like we used to do during high school.

If I didn't slept for the necessary time I felt very uncomfortable the whole day. I felt drowsy all over the day and my face looks very tired. If I slept for the sufficient time I felt fresh and my face looks good and I was active at the whole day. Thanks.

Yes I agree 6-8 hours of daily sleep is necessary for a normal person to stay healthy and fit. It has been proved that lack of sleep can cause all hell of a possible problems like, Depression, Laziness, low energy feeling, dullness. It also leaves scars and dark areas below your eyes, Irregular or no sleep can cause much problems which can affect our life negatively. Sleep also has a direct relation to your span of life. The regular and sound sleep you get the more positive and long life you will have. So it is better to make sure that we get at least 6-8 hours of sleep daily and at a fixed time as that is also very important :).

I had some idea of this, but it's nice to see it written down here. I think adults should get 9 hours of sleep a night with less for older adults. Adolescents need 12 hours of sleep a night because it's a crucial time for growth. I know when I was in high school I only got 6 or 7 hours a night and maybe that's why I'm so short now. I am chronically sleep deprived because I have a bad case of insomnia and my circadian rhythm is somewhat thrown off so I don't get tired until the early morning. When I get out of school I'm going to have to change my sleeping habits and rely more heavily on sleeping pills or start taking melatonin, but for right now it's fine.
