What sword is hanging over your head?

So, yesterday I raised a discussion about a colleague of mine having a court date hanging over his head. Although it is a personal thing, I can’t help but notice it because he keeps repeating his (speeding ticket) story to anybody who would listen.
I would too! If I had that hanging over my head, maybe I also wouldn’t be able to stop talking about it until it goes away. I would try to do work as if everything is normal but I would always have it gnawing on (the back of) my head.
So, I looked up. I didn’t see a sword, but a knife (I think). Some health concerns. I think I’m experiencing some symptoms that I’ve been putting off having it looked at. It’s hanging on top, but I’m not too concerned because it’s not a full blown sword, yet.
And so I urge everybody here on myLot to look up. What do you see? Is it a sword? What kind is it?
Of course it could be not a sword, but just some rainclouds because you’re feeling blue, or a mistletoe because you want to kiss somebody.

I have a giant sword filled in blood, tears and filth. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to change my situation right now. Although I am trying with all my might, heart and prayers I am afraid until now nothing has changed.
My metaphor for my sword simply to delineate the feeling of having lost everything I have worked so hard my life to earn. But it was completely out of my control no matter how much I tried. I was like your friend where I could not stop talking about it until I drove myself ragged.
Although I still think about it, I try really hard not voice it anymore as really talking anymore about it won't change anything for now.

When I was in therapy many years ago - one of the things I earned was that when you talk about the problem then you are beginning to deal with it. Not taking may cause more problems. So you need to talk about it as a healing process - or at least the beginning of this process. I do hope that this terrible time you are going through will soon end.I believe in the power of prayer and will pray for you. Many blessings

cynthiann you are a blessing my dear as prayer, hope and my faith is what gets me through each day. I wanted to thank you ever so kindly as I read your post as blessings and a prayer for me is all I ever ask for. Thank you.

I think you confused me with perhaps someone else, I do not have a grandson or one that had passed but thanks for the blessing though.

Hello bounce58,
Mine sword or knife are my children and there money problems with there car breaking down and needing a rental car instead of using a taxi or bus. I am suppose to help pay for it and the repairs on the car. It is getting to be too much for me to handle. She is 21 and my other one 18 and both are in college. Both have jobs but the youngest only works over holidays because she is truggling to keep her grades up for the major she picked. Constant guilt from both of them and why i do not have money etc. it really sucks. Oh well.
Have a great day!

Don't take on their guilt. You can only do what you can do and nothing more. Sometimes it is good to them solve their problems. Your youngest should get a job. Her choice of subject is not your responsibility.Maybe she is goofing off a little. She should get a part time job.She may even do better at college. Blessings and please do not take offence at what I've said. Blessings

As a parent myself, I would have the same feelings as you unique16. To be wanting to help out our kids all the time.
But I would also agree with cynthiann that we should let them sort their problems out for themselves. And not let guilt drive(pardon the pun) us to be at their beck and call. I know it is difficult, but I'm sure it's better than having that sword on top of our heads.

I think that my sword is mainly financial. THe poverty level in my country has risen 16.5 percent. But the government is lying as it it so much higher. I am scared of losing my job as I do not have enough money to live if I lose it. I have a son who is out of work and this is also a pressure - a terrible pressure. There are no unemployment benefits in my country so it is more than grief to lose your work. My boss would love to fire me to employ someone younger so that he could pay them less

I keep forgetting that you're in Jamaica. It is sad that there is no unemployment benefits there.
I seem to remember a discussion of yours saying that your boss was a bit of a jerk. So, I'm sure he would he'd love to replace you. I hope he doesn't though.
Thanks.

Hi, bounce! My sword is that I really, really need to find a new home to rent - somewhere that will make my life simpler and suit the needs of my family, like being along a school bus route and my sons having access to public transport and work. Sounds easy! Not so. Factor in that we have pets and NOTHING suitable is available. Well, I'll stop whinging now but, that is MY sword.
YOUR sword is important. If there is something niggling at you healthwise, please see someone BEFORE it is full-blown. Sooner is so much better than later when it comes to your health.

I guess you're right about the health issue RangaGirl. I should schedule a doctor's visit sometime soon.
And I hope that you find your home soon. Not sure about the realty situation in your place, but I see there's a lot for rent where I'm at. So, hopefully you'll find something suitable.
Thanks.

I literally have a kitana over my bed. It is hanging on a decorative board. it is sheathed just in case it does happen to fall. Metaphorically, I have paying for my house, and hopefully my child's college hanging over my head. This is why i participate in sites like this. I hope that my 10 and 15 dollars a month will add up to a good down payment on my child's future.
