Horoscope - truth or fiction?

Do you read horoscope at all? Or do you think it's a fiction, just the stuff people expect to read in a horoscope? I used to read them, just for giggles, but they didn't make any sense. Then my mother told me about self-fulfilling prophecy: you read your horoscope, you like what you read and in few days, weeks, months it comes true because you belive it will come true. After that I read a day's horoscope few days or even weeks later, just to see if it happened. Needless to say, nothing ever happened what was written in a horoscope. What's yor experience on the subject? Have you ever had a prediction that came true?

Horoscopes should not be believed and Christians should not even read this. I think you should take time going to this link http://www.gotquestions.org/horoscopes-Christian.html and find out to yourself why. Now if you don't have much time. Then here I am posting and excerpt from this link which will be worth your reading:
he purpose of a horoscope is to gain insight into a person’s character and foretell the future. The basic belief of astrology is that planets and stars exert an influence upon our lives. Those with special knowledge—astrologers—can predict events in a person’s life. It is distressing that most major newspapers have a horoscope column, and even more distressing that many Christians read their horoscopes.
"The Bible expressly forbids divination, sorcery, and hidden arts (Deuteronomy 18:10-14). God’s people are to heed God only (Deuteronomy 18:15). Any other source of guidance, information, or revelation is to be rejected outright. (See also Acts 16:16-18.) The Bible points to Jesus Christ as the only proper focus of faith (Acts 4:12; Hebrews 12:2). Our trust is in God alone, and we know that He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Faith in anything besides God is misplaced.
Astrology, then, opposes biblical teaching in at least two ways: it advocates faith in something other than God, and it is a form of divination. We cannot determine God's will for our lives through horoscopes. As Christians, we are to read the Bible and pray to God in order to gain wisdom and guidance. Consulting a horoscope is a violation of God's means of communicating with His children. We strongly believe that horoscopes should be rejected by Christians."

That's very interesting, I didn't know that horoscope would qualify as false faith with Christian religion. But then, it makes sense when God forbids faith in any other objects, persons and concepts.
What do you think of the proverb 3:5-6 from the exerpt? Doesn't it sound a lot like karma? What goes around, comes around. And yet, by Bible, the concept of karma is forbidden also.

The horoscopes that you read in the paper or on the net are generic and just for entertainment. Your mom is right. Some people who really believe can find a way to convince themselves that they came true. I had a boyfriend who got very upset and stalked me for an entire day because my horoscope said that I was going to have a hot date that night! It never occured to him that he could possibly be that hot date. Needless to say, He got really upset when he saw me leave my apt. I did not know he was watching but I went to the store and came home. He thought I must of met someone and cheated on him. I was gone less than a half hour! We argued and we ended up breaking up because this wasn't the first incident. People can take these things too seriously. A real personal horoscope takes a lot of time and some very detailed math to chart out. How accurate they are, I really don't know. I took one look at all that was involved in it and decided it was too much.

Hi,
I would say it's funny when a close friend follows you whole day because of something written in a horoscope but that boyfriend of yours was seriously obsessed. Glad you broke up with him. Thank you for sharing your experience on this subject and better luck with other boyos ;)
Happy mylotting.

It's great once in a while to be amused with horoscope. I don't really believe it. I'm amused at how it impacts people.

It's not true. It's just another bullsh!t that people resort to to get out of everyday problems and somehow track their faith when they can actually decide on their own without relying on it.

Isn't that the truth? In my family when there's a horoscope on radio or TV, there's a grave silence until the horoscope ends. It's amazing really how people don't believe in them yet still listen to them. It's hypnotic, you know? Thank you for responding and happy mylotting.

I think horoscope are fake, but I still read them. I think it's fake because every horoscope is different depending on who is telling the information. People want to believe horoscopes are real, therefore they take in the information given and try to fit it into their lives somehow.

Big smile. That's thing about horoscopes. People read them becuase they want to make sure there is something worthwhile in their near future and they get hooked on the horoscope when there's even a itty-bitty detail correct.
Thank you for responding and happy mylotting.

I wonder if the correctness of the horoscope depends on the state you live in the newspaper you read. Also the depth of the research may a part. But I'm seriously glad that you can know what happens before it happens and you can prepair for it.
Thank you for the response and happy mylotting.

Alot of things that they print up as a horoscope are what could happen to anyone no matter what sign they are .Also if you were to buy three different things that had horoscopes in them, they would all say totally different things,so what that is why i do not think any of what they have printed is true.

Thank you for reminding me =) I'd forgotten that line of thought. I always thought if the horoscopes in different newspapers were same or at least similar, but because I never believe in them, the thought is so trivial, I constantly forget to check in the library. We even had a teleshow from a man who created horoscope *eyeroll*. I mean who would believe in that? But I'm going off on a rant. So, thank you for the response and happy mylotting.

hello babyimp!
i believe in astrology, the real kind which is based on in depth study and research by experts. it considers a lot of factors, mixed together, which really yields some accurate information. However, these horoscopes publish in magazines and online are generalize in nature and does not really pinpoint to a particular person except perhaps if you make this as an individualize reading based on information they will require which you will submit.
i can say though that horoscopes printed on magazines or newspaper are more for fun than for anything else. one must not so much believe on these, especially since our lives are at stake. i don't believe though in the self-fulfilling prophecy thing about horoscopes. It if will happen, it will happen, reading your horoscope or not. unless of course if it involves something like you making a decision and it is written in your horoscope that you will decide that way..and after a time, you indeed decide that way because of the influence of your horoscope which you have read, that's self-fulfilling.

Thank you for sharing this. I believe in researched astrology based on facts, not just your birth date. I don't believe in newspaper horoscope that has no research whatsoever and could be directed at anyone, even an alien.
But what I meant about the self-fulfilling prophecy is that people like what they read in horoscope and make subconscious decicions that would lead their lives to fulfilling that prediction of the day.
Thank you for responding and happy mylotting.

I don't believe its true. I did in junior high, but I was much more gullible back then! Not even the 'personality traits' are accurate for your 'star sign'

Who wasn't gullible in junior high? I believed in horoscope and I believed when a girl told me when a seagull pooped on water it was a divine sign of something bad to come. But thank you for the response, I don't believe the horoscope because of the same reasons you don't. Happy mylotting.

There is no self-fulfilling prophesy,in MY case.Recently for fun's sake,I just checked my horoscope, online.Generally the prediction was correct, but about three important points, were, astoundingly to the mark.I am a bit confused and undecided, now,as to the correctness of predictions based on horoscopes.

Who truthfully knows, we can only form our own beliefs.
I personally believe that most are false, although I do think that certain aspects hold truth such as key dates and times. I don't believe the stars have anything to with what happens, nor do I believe the moon brings wealth. It's really a case of how you see things and sometimes no matter what we think, we tend to believe what we do and nothing else can really change that.
I read them but don't always believe them.

I don't have any faith in those horoscopes that appear in the daily newspapers. They just look fancy writings, rather that any indepth meaningful astrological readings. But, I do believe in astrology as practised in the west and the east. They are very systematic, and I am very much amazed with the correctness of the predictions over the years.

Exactly my thoughts! I label horoscope in the same category as crystal ball, mostly you see the contorted version of yourself. But the correctness of predictions of astrology practised in east and west, that I agree with completely. I've read multiple book on that theme and I believe what they say. They are similar to hand readings and numerology which I also believe in. Thank you for sharing your views with us and happy mylotting.

Hi,
I always thought stars and horoscope never had anything to do with each other. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the uh wise ones in east make charts looking at the stars for royal family members and let them know what future brings? Thank you for responsing and happy mylotting.

I enjoy reading my horoscope in the daily newspaper. i don't put my faith into though. Sometimes things seem very true while others are so far off the mark. It is more entertaining to me than anything else.

I like the way you think =). I agree, horoscope is more entertaining than not. Now if it said all my dreams would come true, I would hope the prediction would come true, but the sad truth is no one would be so generous as to allow me an access to their bank account to purchase as many books I want. So I see no truth is the horoscope, for me their only value is, needless to say, entertainment. Thank you for responding and happy mylotting.
