I bring an umbrella all the time, even when it's not raining.

I guess I'm one of the rare breed of men who bring an umbrella with them all the time. It's always in my bag, I never take it out. If for someone reason I don't feel like bringing a bag, I have a smaller umbrella that fits in my pocket. I just can't leave home without an umbrella --- even if the sun is out. With the very unpredictable weather of the Manila, it pays to always be ready. Some of my friends prefer not to bring an umbrella. Some complain that it's too heavy, or that it takes up too much space. While some just doesn't want to "cramp their style". I actually don't get that. I mean would you rather run around with a newspaper over your head or try to dodge the raindrops (which is highly impossible hehehe). You could get sick. How many of us here bring an umbrella all the time? If you don't bring one with you, could you share with us why? :) Is it really just a fashion thing? Has the umbrella become "not cool"? :)

I had a similar experience but it wasn't an umbrella. During my college days, we were forced to bring those two heavy books in nursing. For two weeks, I brought it. Then one day I decided not to since my back aches so much. At that time, the assistant dean of the college came to our classroom and asked to bring out our book. Bad luck. I was considered late for the day.

Wow, lady luck was really not smiling on you that day. Bummer. Hope the students nowadays would have less books to carry, what with the growing popularity of e-books and stuff. :)

i don't always bring an umbrella unless i put in in my bag one day and use the bag often. i don't take it out so its just there and i'd be lucky if it rains. i've got bad experiences with umbrellas that's why i don't bring them around. i tend to lose them. i already lost 3 or 4 automatic umbrellas.

I'm wishing I'd bought mine looking aout the window, it was bright this morning but it's clouding over and looking like it might rain now. I live in England too which is famous for the cold and rain so I really should carry one all the time. I do have one that fits in my bag folded up and is good for that, so there's no excuse for me not to be carrying one. The only trouble with umbrella's is it's often windy here while it's raining so you can't use an umbrella, even the hoods on coats get blown down if you are walking in the wrong direction.

Oh yeah. Cold rain + strong wind = not good! ...I've experienced that before and it was such a hassle. I suppose an umbrella plus hoodie/raincoat combo should work? :)

If you can stop the umbrella turning inside out, and my new coats hood is not good for staying up in the wind, it's going to be a difficult winter for me.

I think thats great that you are an individual and have such a ready for anything attitude. Don't worry what other people think about how you look or act, if we were all the same you wouldn't have been noticed. Be known for who you are no matter what that might be and if carrying an umbrella helps you to feel prepared for the day then you are already a step ahead of the person who finds this embarrassing!! Your cool. Umbrella only proves it!! Have a nice day!

hello thebassdude! wow! you're awesome! i mean, your breed is entirely rare, not only among men but amongst women too nowadays. i mean, only a rare few women bring umbrellas with them, much less some small ones which could fit in their pockets, lol. I for one would love to bring an umbrella that could fit the pocket of an average jeans. It must be somewhat collapsible umbrella that could fit my pocket but when opened, will take the size of an average umbrella, lol. actually, the umbrellas of today, the average ones, are not that fashionable at all. the one thing which prevents me from carrying one all the time is that they're bulky (foldable ones) and the non-foldable umbrellas are so innocuous that i often forgot it, leaving it anywhere i placed it and often forgetting about it especially if there's no rain. I have lost maybe 30 to 40 umbrellas in my lifetime and i don't want to lose another one, lol.

Thank you. :) I think that's the only advantage of wearing loose fit pants... plenty of pocket room to fit most compact umbrellas. :p I think besides the umbrella not being fashionable enough, one concern most people have to deal with is having to carry around a bulky umbrella. It hinders mobility in a way. I mean, why carry around an umbrella when you could use your limbs for other more important things right? --- like carrying shopping bag. :p ...you're not alone ...I've lost quite a few umbrellas as well. :)

Bringing umbrella is cool especially these days, unpredictable weather due to the global warming. My friends have umbrella i just borrow theirs if it is badly needed, but most of the time I go without umbrella; and if it rained, running would be a great help for me. ^_^ Christmas is nearing, I accept umbrella as a present lol

oh yeahh?? i seee... so it's nice to receive umbrella because it means that they care for me. nice, love it. They said, if a guy give you handkerchief, they will make you cry. How true is it?

Umbrellas make great gifts. It shows that you care for a person. :) A jacket or raincoat would make great gifts too. :)

I too always bring an umbrella with me. When I go to work, I usually bring a mailman-type bag and there's enough space for a folded umbrella. When I go out with friends, I don't want to have a big bag so I just try to stuff all my stuff in my pockets or use a belt bag and carry the folded umbrella with me. It has a string anyway so it's easy and less uncomfortable to carry. Even if it's a bit awkward to carry an umbrella, I don't care because when it begins to rain, I won't have any problem traveling. There's always those who'd stay under sheds and will wait til the rain stops. At least with an umbrella, the rain can't stop us...unless it's a storm. "Umbrella is not fashionable." I see why others don't like to carry umbrellas because it "destroys their image" but in the first place, an umbrella is supposedly functional, not fashionable. It's a matter of choice if they'd want to look cool but soaked or they want to walk with confidence under the shade of an umbrella, hahaha I can't help imagining what you said about trying to run with a newspaper and dodging the raindrops. I remember one time when my classmates and I had to cross from our building to the supermarket on the other side of the road for lunch. Our umbrellas were in our room. When we were about to go back, it's already raining. There was a supermarket employee handing out flyers. We took those flyers to use as shields from the rain and ran. I felt embarassed to waste the supermarket's flyers, but I did read it when we got to our room, lol. ^.^

I only carry an umbrella when it is already raining. Sometimes i get caught without it. these are times when i wished that i had paid more attention to the weather forecast that day.

That's actually a good idea. I always do that, I always check the weather using the widget on my phone. But sometimes the weather could get a little crazy... you go out of the house and the sun's all bright, and then in the afternoon it starts to rain. :p But yeah, checking the weather is always a good idea. :)

I think, yeah, it has gone out of fashion long ago. Well, it's always good to be ready for anything. You can even use it as a weapon when someone tries to mug you, right?

Hahahaha! It would really come handy in a situation like that. Good idea! :p

I think bringing an umbrella all the time is putting into practice the old saying - 'better to be safe than sorry'. I always make it a point that there's an umbrella inside my bag because the weather is really unpredictable and I don't want to get caught up dripping wet in the rain or burning under scorching heat. My current umbrella is now my favorite, I bought at the Hongkong airport. It is so thin, it's so handy. So come rain, come shine, my umbrella sticks with me.

It's a good thing umbrellas nowadays are more stylish and functional. I remember when those automatically closing umbrellas first came out... it was mind blowing. hehehehe. Yeah I know, I'm such a geek. But yeah, it was really awesome back then. Now most umbrellas are like that. :)

You're no alone :) I bring my umbrella everyday too. Rain or shine. With an unpredictable weather like ours, it's always an advantage to bring one. You can always use it even when it's hot/sunny right? I have this folded umbrella that can fit my bag so I don't have to worry about bulkiness. One thing, that I keep on doing that I hate is that I always tend to lose my umbrella in cabs. The umbrella I have right now is my 4th this year I think. :(

I suffer from cab amnesia as well... hehehehe but I always tend to leave my bonnet/beanie. I used to have a drawer full of bonnets (i kinda collect hehe) now I'm down to 5 I think. :(

i think it depends.in some places, the weather keeps changing rapidly even in a day.so it's necessary to bring an umbrella with you all the time.but since it's heavy and costs too much space,i seldom carry one with me.

That's actually why I always have an umbrella with me. The weather here is totally unpredictable. One moment the heat is so intense... and before you know it, it starts raining like cats and dogs. :) You have to be ready all the time. :)

Umbrella is always a thing in my bag, small, long ones, I have them. I don't know but I'm not comfortable if I found out I don't have an umbrella with me everytiome I would go out, even in the car, there's a spare one just in case...I don't know if umbrella ceased to be a fashion accessory?

I also feel uneasy when I don't have an umbrella with me. It's the first thing I check before I leave the house. :)

Well, i think it is weired, i have never seen a man carrying an umbrella all the day. But i watch a tv program in which a man carries an umbrella with him all the time and he treats it like his child. I think it's not cool to carry an umbrella with you now a days. Regards, harry, :-)

heheheh. I guess it comes natural to me because I am a weird person. hehehe :p I don't literally carry it around though, it's either in my bag or in my pocket. :) So it's not always visible. :p But I do carry a larger umbrella, especially if the rain becomes too strong. :)

there are many people who think umbrella is only used for rainy weather, but actually it is also very useful during sunny days.
