True. My cat Cleo used to sit on top of a low brick wall above a mouse hole. The mice never had a chance to escape when she dropped on them!

Before the roomie moved in, she lived in a house with a mouse problem. Nino, her cat, would sit over the main mouse entrance and they would hear: THUMP! "EEK!" and the cat would come in with his latest victim...

My cat also loves to climb up trees and shelves. I figured he was just hiding from the dogs...LOL

Oh yes, my babies love to be in high places so they can look down on their human mommy. lol I think it's cute - most of the time. However, I have a book shelf where the top is a couple of feet lower than the ceiling. I thought this would be the perfect spot to put my pictures. Noooooo. It only took one time for one of my kitties to climb up and squeeze around those pictures. So down came the pictures before they fell on anyone's head. Today, I was studying in my living room and one of the kitties climed on the top shelf in the laundry area. She wanted to get in the crate and I was afraid she would tip it and come crashing down. Then she looks at me with that reassuring expression as if to say - "Don't worry Momma, I have it all under control." You gotta love 'em.

Yes, my cat seems to be into that here lately. I think it's so that he is out of reach of the grandkids.

In the past, we have cats. I mean, lots of cats, but my father don't want to have cats in the house so, what he did, he ordered his people inside the house to throw all the cats outside the house--- far away from our house. The cats came back and stays at the roof top of our house and from generation to generation, they all live at the roof top of our house. They just stayed there and gets down to find a food and sometimes, steal our food. Even if I tried to have my cat back, it won't do so I set them free and I see them sometimes on the roof top, looking at me. Even if we have a dog--- "kiss"--- the cat just looking at us like we are a stranger. I miss my old cats when I was a kid.

Not only on high shelves, My Koko's territories include top of the roof, tree branches, post, high fence. He loves to be there and looks down on every creature down there. I don't know but I think it's one of their instinct and habits. Cats are solitary creature and have a world of their own, love to be alone!

The thing is that if my cat climbs to high, he cant go down anymore So he needs our help. They climb on high places because its some old instinct, and its fun for cats to do that.

My cat not only climbs on very high places, she manages to fall from it too. It is funny because, at first it scared me and then now it just annoys me, knowing that she may either land on a breakable object or somebody that could get hurt except her. They just have this skill to climb and fall.

I think that lions are the only cats that do not climb trees for protection. Even they will climb a low branch to get a better view and to rest. It is a basic nature for cats to climb to feel safer.

I have a cat that like to get up on our house roof and then lay on the house next doors roof. She gets out of our loft windows and just wanders over the roof tops, with everyone looking up,i have even had people knock on my door and worry that she can not get down. Its colder now,so we have the windows shut more, less chance of her getting on the roof.

It comes naturally to cats, always have the instinct to hunt, I really like the gentle cats weigh a spoiled cat, sometimes running just lazy let alone hunt, what do you think?

Actually, my cats do that one. He climbs up on higher shelves or on high places like on top of my hanging cabinet, etc. in hoping to find a comfortable spot to squeeze in. Most cats (i suppose) are like this. Nope. My cat doesn't stare at me like that at all :D Hope this counts.
