I have notice that footballers make so much money. the money they make a week some workers dont even make in a year, workers such as even doctors! It is so amazing that it is even possible. Why is this so, why are they getting so much and is it fair for them to get so much while we who work so hard to get through school and get a proper career cant catch up to them, while they just play a game, have fun then sit back and relax? What are all your views on this.

I can understand doctors, lawyers, and other professionals who have gone through university and taken training to get more pay then the ordinary person. I really cannot understand why teachers who work hard, also gone through university, and have that much knowledge to get less pay then a sports legend. And most of those sports heroes fritter away their money. So it is with them easy come, easy go. So it really is unfair.

I was never much of a sports person, and I often wondered why I had to work so hard, and not make enough, and they could make so much. Now I never went to University, but worked in an office and really those sports people who were not that skilled were comparative at the same level in their sports as I was in office work, so they should have gotten the same pay. So even the klutzes in the sports world get a lot.

That is exactly how i see it. Most of them dont even spend their money wisely. So they are just putting it to waste. Wonder why some people start to stop paying attention to their school work. Because they are saying sports are the way to success nowadays.

I think that it is fair that sports people get paid that much money because they also worked hard for it. They made a good career choice that pays a lot. This is the truth for me. I am not a sportsman or anything like that.

They work hard in what way. Ok let i rephrase that to something I can relate to. They work hard in what way compared to a police man (who risk his life everyday to save life especially if that police man works in a very dangerous community) or a surgeon who saves people lives everyday? Give me your honest answer.

Look at this example. A real example too. Usain bolt who is from my country who is the fastest person in the world get over 100 millions dollars from the government and when his car crash, he got another in 1 week but at the same time the government claims to be bankrupt. They owe so much and the country is running in such a bad condition. To me it seems as if all the taxes that we pay goes to that 1 person instead of to the country. What do you see from this?

Sportsmen have to train in order to be good at their chosen sport, it's not like the skill is innate and they are just earning without working hard. Being a sportsman opens doors and connections for you to earn more because of sponsors and other promotions for the sport. Is it not fair if people want to pay much money in order to see the sportsmen play? Sponsors want to pay them much money, is that unfair? That is fair in my view. I agree that the income of policemen and doctors should be higher, but I don't see how it is unfair for them if a sportsmen earns more.

I thought the same thing about actors, atleast footballers and people in sports risk their lives doing stuff physically where they can get hurt and lose their career. But with most actors they don't take that chance the stunt doubles do. And the actors get the millions while the stunt double who risk their lives get a skimpy little sum in comparison. I love watching the movies and shows yeah, who doesn't but to know that an actor made up to 40 millions dollars for it..while others are out here busting their backs for a living to even put food on the table. I think that they shouldn't get so much for just acting..

That is why I wrote With most actors not all actors. I love Jackie Chan movies and Yeah I know a little what he has to endure while making a movie because on soe at the end they show it..in little clips. I have alot of respect for him and a few others.

Well i can understand actors because to me actors does original work and then cell them for cheap money. Its just because there are alot of people buying it. To me acting is like a normal salesman's business. Now i find that creative. I have no problem with actors. Even some actors dont even use stunt double. I have to remember jackie chan who broke alot of his bones dropping off a building, and he repeated the act numerous amount of times because he said "the drop he get wasnt perfect". So he repeated while continually breaking his bones and going to hospital numerous amount of time.

But what have sport players done? Nothing at all. Nothing but provide entertainment. I prefer actors of sport players anytime. As a matter a fact i dont even like to watch sports, i love to play them but i hate to watch it.

Certainly it does not seem fair. Many professional athletes are paid an unreasonable amount compared to regular jobs that take much more training. On the other hand, we do not all choose the same careers, and the pay range varies a lot for different careers. Look, here is an athlete. Here is a team looking for an athlete. The team has a lot of money (because of what the fans pay). The team likes the athlete, they hire him and all sign a contract. The contract includes his huge salary. There is nothing wrong or unethical about that. It is just the way the system is. If you accept that professional athletes can make unreasonable salarys, then you must also accept that Corporate CEO's will make what seem to be unreasonable salaries. Life isn't fair and the income and lifestyle of all people in the country will never be equal for all.

I think a typical range of salary for CEO of a major corporation is between $700,000 and $2,000,000 per year. Of course, they usually get additional stock compensation as well.

I guess that is why they call what hey make as crazy money. As it is a lot of money for less training. But i never really research a CEO's salary before. HOw is it actually?

What is fair in life? It is just like a movie star getting paid more than a working stiff. Has to do with their popularity. If the sport person plays well then he and his fellow players are popular and he gets big bucks. Same deal. Works some what the same way with workers. If they work well they usually get a raise and sometimes go up the corporate ladder.

If the doctors go where the money is then they do make good money. Alot of doctors are there to help people in need and not out for money. Unbelieveable maybe but it is reality of our great America.

But i still dont see why the best sportmans get more money than the best doctors. I understand the movie star one why they get alot of money because to me they are selling an original product and that is very creative and that it also uses alot of money to make a good movie. But then someone who plays a game getting more than a doctor. Now that is unbelievable.

There is not discussing what is fair vs what is right. See I had a discussion the other day where I was explaining a Police officer here starting pay is $26 thousand a year, at a city where crime and danger is likely daily. So round abut he gets o abut $12 per hour to risk his life daily. So there is no logic in trying to figure out why people do what they do, as our own City won't entertain such talk, apparently since these officers get so little.

No, I wouldn't say that this if fair at all and I remember my father saying that the world was upside down with the way some people seemed to attract wealth in that way. My philosophy is somewhat different though. I would say that of course life is not fair, nobody ever said that it was fair. We need to put effort in and sometimes a little luck will come our way. The secret is, to recognize that luck of an opporutunity and seize it with both hands. _Derek

From you said that i remembered something. I made a something pass me in the past. A competition was going on and all you needed to do was to answer your phone when they call if your name was chosen. And i never recognize the number that was calling so i just look at the phone and placed it back in my pocket. If i had answer that call i would have made millions and it burn me inside how i made that opportunity pass me. I guess luck really has to do with being very succesful in life.

they only play for ten or fifteen years maybe. on age 35, they will quit to play. maybe that is why they paid that high. my view on this, i wish that i am a great football player so i can make a lot of money

Sometimes i think that sports figures are overpaid. Many people work hard all of their lives and don't have the money that a sports figure makes in no time at all. You have to wonder if sports figures really deserve all that they are given for what they do. What about the people who constantly struggle for what they have?

That is what i want to know too. They are too over paid. And even when they are over paid they still get other assets free like houses and cars. While the rest of careers even the very important ones have to work much harder than them to get the most, half of what they get.

I have no doubts about it. It is not easy to play sports as they are also getting tired just like the regular employees that are working hard. The talent is one thing they are getting paid of course their skills which is also hard to earn. They are also working hard in the sense of physical activities and more so they are practicing much. They also came into hardships like failing and sometimes they could get easily encounter physical injuries. In other terms it is not also easy to be in sports. Sports is actually much hard especially when you are competing with other people where you have to be competent and much skilled especially in winning. Unlike in other careers especially doctors, their services is not about competing all the time with other doctors but help the patient on how to cure their illness.

i guess doctors are not about competition but still some doctors are placed before others based on what they study because the more years studying is the more they are skilled in their area and the more difficult their area is. I will say a sports player life ain't easy at all but i still think that they are too over paid comparing to others who work much harder than those players.

Well, I do think they get paid way too much, some salaries just do not make sense at all to me (for instance, Wayne Rooney's latest pay raise), but they would never get paid that much if they did not make more than what they get paid for their teams (who charge a lot for tickets to the games, for all kinds of sports memorabilia, etc.). So in that way, it makes sense. If you can generate that much money, you should see some of that money too. And the money in that business is huge. But yeah, many of them still get paid way too much, I do agree.

Atleast you agree too. But what did you just say, Wayne Rooney got a raise. I bet when he got that raise it seems like his money did not increase at all because he didnt need it anyway. I am starting to wish that it was me getting so much pay.

Well, according to me they don't deserve this much of income at all, does not matter if they play for 10 years or 1 month. I don't consider football as a talent. According to me a hardworking person should be paid more than a sports player. It's just not good to have low incomes for sports persons. Happy myloting. Regards, harry, :-)

Well the way i see it, is that it is just a game. And people who work, studying very hard t reach where they are deserves more than those players. When growing up i remembered my parents telling me put down the games and take up my book because games cant bring you anywhere in life but i guess they were wrong. But i think for life to be fair they should have been right.

I don’t know whether it’s fair or not but I guess sports people do work extremely hard as they keep up the training for their chosen sport which they can really work at until their mid-thirties the most and then they need to retire. I suppose it doesn’t seem fair when you compare sport to say, medicine but there is a lot of money in the sports arena and that’s just the way it is. The athletes do work hard for their money, I believe...

Yes they work hard for their money but not for so much money. And if you are going to give them money why do they also have to get their cars and houses free? They already get the money so why more assets. I always have to wonder?

Hi kiddo - I have no issues with that. Actually - they spend quite a bit on the lifestyle that is expected of them. First and foremost very few of them reach the levels where they become very famous. They have to train non-stop which costs them quite a bit. If they choose to stay in a hotel that is not the best, the press would label them as miserly. If they dont tip the waiters well, they will be sneered at. Likewise, they cant bargain on anything as it would look odd. For everything - they need a secretary, who may or may not be reliable. Too much of exercising leads to health problems in later stages of life. That costs a lot of money. They have simply too many problems I dont want in my life.

Your just lazy vandana. It seems like you just can't bother with that life because it is too much work. Well i find it unfair because they get anything they want free. Is like i have to save to buy a house, so i have to use my save money to buy it. While they get the money for the house and they get the house so they have no need to buy it. You see what i mean? That is totally unfair. Totally.

It is wrong that all sports person are paid more. Who we know a highly paid are the top most category on their field. In all field top category people are highly paid. We can't generalize all the people. Some of them have special skill and quality. Special deserve special pay. In the multinational company too there are some people who are paid attractive salary. We even not imagine who much they are paid who are special for those company. To be a world figure in any category any must have special skill. How much trouble have to face to be the best one. So it is not unfair that special are pail specially.

I think we have all noticed how high sports players and movie stars get paid for the little work they seem to do. We don't know what kind of commitments these type of people have with these jobs but I guarantee if they are getting paid a huge some of money and on contract there must be things they HAVE to do that normal people wouldn't. For example, wrestlers, sports players and movie stars have to keep fit and look good. Wrestlers and fighters have to watch their weight because a few pounds can make a huge difference in what class of fight they entered in. If they are use to lightweight fighting and ended up gaining weight and got bumped up to middle class then that fighter is now fighting out of his league because he is fighting against heavy people who are used to the weight. Sometimes the movie stars have to do some pretty crazy stuff themselves just to get or hold a part in a movie or television show so again we don't know what goes on really when they get those huge checks. I totally see where you are coming from and I understand the fustration because so many of us real people work so hard and so long to just barley get by most of the time when these players and movie stars seem to do a few weeks of work and get millions for it. Even though they are never really in danger or anything like the typical person would experience in a day.

I understand but look at me. I want to pursue a career in medicine and to be more specific i want to be a surgeon but at the same time i want to be fit even fitter than one of those soccer players. So i dont classify that little bit that they do any thing difficult like studying for 16 years to be a surgeon. It is totally unfair.

@Renhard (3471)

24 Oct 10
Well even though i agree with you. I really dont like your explanation. I have no problems with them being superstars or with them doing what they want to do because everyone has a choice on what they want to be or do. We are responsible for that decision. What burns me though are those sponsors who pay so much to a player and not to a country that might be in debt. So much goes to one person and still they get more on top of it.
