After reaching a certain stage in life people tend to put on weight . This happens because of a number of reasons like a comfortable life style , especially when you have an office job and not much time left for physical activity. Once we realise that we have put on unwanted weight which is also telling on our health, it is essential to take steps to lose weight wisely. It is never a good idea to go on crash diets . Instead it is better to set a goal and have a plan of action whereby one can lose weight slowly but steadily over a period of 4-6 months. Some tips 1, Eat less fattening food and reduce the intake of butter ,ghee and fried stuff 2, Drink lots of water, especially before each meal 3, Never skip a meal or fast since it is only going to affect your health, instead eat small quantities of balanced meals... 4, No diet is complete without exercise. so do some regular exercise like going for a brisk walk or even doing house work which involved bending and stretching 5, If you are used to relaxing with a drink before your dinner , it is wiser to stick to a glass of beer or 1 or 2 glasses of Red wine. You can indulge occasionally , but with care and by taking plenty of nutritious food along with your drinks. Finally , one must remember that one looks and feels much better after losing all those unwanted kilos, and the added bonus will be a reduced risk of cancer, diabetes, heart ailments, high blood pressure …the list is endless.

Great tips and here is what worked for me: For the first time in my life I took the right approach about losing weight. See I use to be one of those roller coaster dieters, starving my body to be think. I could easily lose weight but never seemed to keep it off long term. So last Oct 2009 I decided for the first time I would start off right. I bought a Jillian Michaels exercise bike and for the first time in my life begin to drink water. So at the same time I decided I would eat 3 -4 sensible meals per day. Although she recommends we ride the bike for 1/2 hour per day seven days a week I decided while watching my favorite show that that I would do one hour for 5 days a week. Can I tell you that in short of 4 months I lost 60 lbs and have never look leaner and skinny. My skin and health has dramatically been excellent. So now I only use my bike 3 days a week for 1/2 hour for cardio, continue to drink my water and still eat 3 - 4 meals per day. So for all those roller coaster dieters, they must realize that unless you take control and discipline for them selves, all they are doing is literally slowly killing themselves. This is my 11 month since the start of my great path and can I say I still looking great oh and eating too. So I suppose the bottom line is discipline and great eating habits.

That's really good advice. The best way to lose weight and actually keep it off is to lose it over a longer period of time so your body gets used to it's new weight gradually. If you lose too fast, you will more than likely put it back on because your body tends to try and naturally maintain it's normal weight and if you have been overweight or gaining for a long time, your body thinks that is normal. When you lose slowly, your body will get used to your lighter weight and tend to maintain that. I've tried the crash diets and I can tell you, they just don't work for permanent weight loss. The only diet that has ever worked for me is the Atkins or low carbohydrate diet. If I just cut down on the carbs and increase my activity a little, I can lose weight. It works as long as I keep my carb intake below a certain level. One other thing I would like to add. It's always a good idea to take vitamin and mineral supplements while dieting to make sure you get everything your body needs. Some diets don't always offer balanced nutrition so taking supplements can help insure you maintain good health.

Hi millertime, In fact I never ever feel that one should diet ! I am all for taking balanced meals , but in small quantities , so there will not be any need to take supplements . With a balanced diet and exercise one is bound to see results over a period of time - thanks a lot for your response and all the best

Many people believe that losing weight is based solely on diet and what you eat. To their inconvenience, weight loss involves more than watching what you eat. Yes it is true that to lose weight, you must choose what foods to consume wisely, but if you are really trying to see bigger effects, you should look into working out or exercise. Exercise is the training of the body to be able to get through life’s daily obstacles with less effort and much more ease. This can be done by taking on many forms of working out, depending on what you plan on becoming better in. Exercise is also a big benefit to weight loss.

Hi pogi, thank you so much for your response No diet or weight reduction programe is complete without a certain amount of exercise. I agree just reducing diet does not automatically make you fit. What we need to achieve is a balanced look ,losing the extra weight and also make your body firm and fit - all the best and have a nice weekend

I agree with you :) But don't for get to exercise 1. 30 mins of cardio - cardio burns a lot of calories. It's simple, run, jog, go aerobics to keep your heart rate up and lose weight fast. 2. Strength Training- do some weight lifting activities. You don't have to use much weight for this a one pound weight would do (less weight less bulk). Also do some crunches, squats to tone those problem areas.

I removed soda and right away lost weight. I'm drinking water before every meal, which helps you feel full faster. It really helps me keep my calories down. Its always better to have a small meal, then skip meals, as several of my friends know I use to skip meals. People feel so rushed to get out of their house in the morning and I know the traffic in my area has been getting worse. Its easy to make excuses and I'm one of the worst. Now I tell myself it really hurts me when I skip meals.

hello kiran8! you are on the right track on this one. It is indeed not advisable to go on crash diets and skipping meals if one wants to lose fat and stay lean. and yes, dieting without the proper exercise will boosts the chances of achieving your desired weight goal in minimal time. as an office girl, i fall within the categories you've mentioned like having a comfortable lifestyle, no adequate time to exercise, inability to insert physical activities in between office duties. well, i will definitely take the road you have traveled and would start to drink more water. I used to not like plain water. and i barely exercise.
