Classical verses pop music. Are you a devoted classical music listener or a classical musician? I am a classical music listener at the same time i do appreciate some pop songs. But I felt quit often that there is a culture of superiority of classical music to pop/rock type amongst classical listeners. Yet I have not been successful to heat a reason. it is more like a 'class' type problem than a ration. At the same time i am desperate to hear a reason if there is one please.

Well I think that Classical music is really a very nice kind of music. Reasons of why? I actually find classical music refreshing to my soul, it soothes my soul. It is splendid to my ears. Actually it makes me sleep. LOL. Anyways, I also do like Pop music but the problem is pop music doesn't really help me sleep. XD

I started singing at the age of 18. Thereafter I left singing and went for a job. Now at the age of 38, I have started from zero, learning classical singing. My teacher suggested that learning classical singing only can make my voice better and I can regain my voice as earlier. In other time, I carry on listening only classical song. I know that a singer should never force himself unto a particular type of singing, but it is better to go for classical if somebody wants to keep his/her voice intact for longer time.

Also appointed a voice trainer who himself is a good classical singer. He is guiding me to rebuilt my vocal chord in a proper manner.

I am a classical music listener too.
Classical music is original and full of culture and the emotions of an entire generation. Pop music is rarely original mostly saturated and sometimes bad copies from classics, one of the worst thigs happened ever on the history of the earth has the born of the pop singer Justin Bieber were musics are full of repetitions and no culture at all. The modern music is turning in an copy of the copy and destructing all of the last generation created.
Sorry for bad english xD.

don't mind your english. i like your comment dude. we have the same point of view. for me it is still better to listen to classical music that today's hits. nowadays, music are more of a sreaming and shouting, and sometimes the lyrics are not even meaningful, others contain themes that obscene, and others are plain repetitions. i hate it.
but listening to classical music makes me really feel the feeling or emotion of the song. it satisfies me well.

The biggest difference between pop music and classical music is that pop music is created to appeal to the masses, sometimes with little consideration to the quality of the music. Classical music is created with the quality of music in mind. I think we can agree that pop music gets old for the listeners. Classical music is immortal, it will never get old.

classical is always my favourite. Classical music will really make me feel pleasant, or somehow comfortable! While I'm in bad mood, the smooth music of Classical can actually soothes my mind. Other than that, I think Jazz Music would be my secondary. So, Classical music FTW! (=

I wouldnt go as far as to say classical is better than pop music, i think it depends upon ones moods. If i want to sit and think but relax at the same time classical goes on, if i feel more energetic and maybe want to sing another genre is chosen. They all have their time in our lives or maybe i have weird tastes.

I'll listen to any kind of music. Whether or not I like a song usually depends on the lyrics. When there are no lyrics, then I judge based on the music alone.
I like classical music, but there's nothing about it that I feel is superior or "classier" than other kinds of music. It's very nice and kind of relaxing (Sometimes. It does depend on what you listen to.) But in my personal opinion, any kind of music can carry any kind of emotion and ultimately there's nothing that's "better".
I think part of the reason you get that impression is that a large part of the classical music lovers are older, and I tend to feel like whenever someone grew up with a different type of music then they typically call their music better than what's being put out these days.

I don't think that it's one is superior over the other. I think that they're just different from each other. Of course, you can't beat the discipline of a classical musician, but it all comes down to practice and rehearsal. I love classical music and I play it on my speakers whenever I want to, just as I play pop or rock or jazz or show tunes.
We perceive that classical is superior because of their epic nature, the way they are created, and they scope of the involvement. But it's all the same. There were no speakers or amplifiers back then so in order to produce entertainment, an orchestra would be appropriate.
I'm sure there are a lot of classical listeners out there who happen to love rock or pop.

I must admit that I am not really a big fan of classical music because I've always been exposed to pop music over the years. Yet, when I got pregnant and heard about the 'build your babies brain' cd series or these are classical pieces compiled and packaged in a cd that promotes brain enhancement for kids. I listened to the music and it grew on me. I did not know that 'twinkle twinkle little star' was a Mozart original. Now that baby in my tummy is 10 years old now and he loves classical music. For him, there is no barrier between the two genres, he just both appreciates it as music. Both types of music have their own merits. I think we just have to open our minds to it.

As what I have heard about classical music, it helps improves how our brain works, its beneficial especially when we study and while listening to classical music"like Beethoven symphonies". It is very effective because I've already tried it, and thats the advise by one of my friend. I prefer to be a classical lover than a pop lover, but still I appreciate Pop music a lot. =)

I use to listen to pop music exclusively when I was younger because it is the popular genre. Lately, I've discovered classical music and I think it is better than pop because of how it makes me feel. It makes me feel peaceful and relaxed. it clears my mind from the stresses of life. Classical music for me is the greatest type of genre to listen to. It doesn't need lyrics to send its message and make people feel the emotion.
