Do you have any weird combinations when eating Filipino food? My wife loves to eat tinola with banana catsup. She wants me to try it, but I never dared. :p

I don't know if this is weird... Putting toyo in Pakbet? Which is like a Adobong Pakbet? or how about Kinilaw na Ampalaya (raw Ampalaya that is soak in salt and a little vinegar and tomato)? Or how about steamed broccoli with an instant Lucky Me Pancit canton? I think its already common to use corned beef instead of using ground pork in Spaghetti, isn't?

Well, then you try that....If you like vegetables specially broccoli.... I thought at first it is not a right food combination but when I taste, I liked it! And also have you tried putting Ampalaya in a Pork or Chicken spicy Adobo? just a little bitter and spicy....

I love how adventurous you are with food. :) the royal mixed with raw egg and evap sounds kinda good. I'm assuming it kinda tasted like milkshake huh? I might try that someday. :)

I respect other's opinion regarding how we combine our food :) As i have my own combination. It is just our own preferences. We like this with that thing. I'm sure other's too have their own unique preferences when it comes to food.

My wife swears it's delicious! :) I don't usually use catsup or any type of sauce for that matter... I like eating food and savoring it's natural flavor. :) I guess that's why I never really actually tried it. But one of these days I definitely will. :)

Weird in what sense, dear? Maybe, what you really want to know are the uncommon combination. As for your wife, I did that when I was a kid. Not just with tinola but with also pork sinigang and nilagang baka. And you know what, it tastes yummy. :)I don't do that anymore, though. I love to eat french fries with ice cream. Is it weird? I don't think so...How about champorado and tuyo? For the tagalogs, this isn't weird but the best combination but for the visayans like me, it is uncommon and funny combination.I guess, weirdness depends on where you are from. :)

Oh I didn't mean weird in a negative way. I mean weird in a cool way. The way I think I'm weird for wearing chucks and a mohawk on my wedding day. haha. :p Fries and ice cream... kinda like the McDonald's commercial. :) As for ketchup with Tinola, I haven't tried it yet, but my wife swears it's delicious. I trust her anyways so I don't need to. :p hehe.

My weird Filipino food combination is the Bicol version of laing locally known as "pinangat" (gabi leaves cooked in rich coconut milk, with a lot of pepper) -- I combine it with bacon, and eat it over a bowl of hot rice, and a I use my hands when eating, to boot! Perfect comfort , guilty pleasure food trip for me...Another combination that I really love, I'm not sure if this is weird -- I love pouring hot chocolate tablea into rice or fried rice then eat it with dried fish (mainly tuyo) or Bicol's guinobatan longganisa (a local version of chorizo). And as for my grandmother, she eats Bicol's laing pinangat tucked in a pandesal sandwich. I haven't tried the latter because I think it's too weird for me already :-)

ok... now I'm hungry and craving for everything you said even though I haven't tried any of them yet. :p But the way you described it... I could imagine just how good those are. :) hmmmm... that's the second time someone has mentioned laing sandwich filling. I really should try that sometime. Speaking of laing, my lola make super delicious laing. Sadly she hass passed away already... she never got to pass on her recipe. :( But it's ok... everytime I try laing though, deep inside I'm thinking, "My lola's laing will kick this laing's behind anytime of day!" hehehehe... believe me, it's really that good. :) Not too spicy, just right. I remember her telling me that the secret is letting the leaves dry properly. I never tried making laing, maybe someday I will. :)
