What is the difference between AWD and 4WD in cars?

4wd mean when car riding all 4 tires

AWD - All Wheel Drive , where the power is delivered to all the 4 wheels only under certain conditions and the torque could be dominated as per use. E.g. cars in Tokyo Drift. 4WD - these are usually motors which supply torque to all the 4 wheels without any disturbance and usually cannot be dominated.The are mostly found on jeeps and pick up trucks .
