Is Suharto should be called a national hero?

OK2..let`s make it clear. Nobody`s perfect in this world, Sukarno,Suharto,Habibie and all our presidents have their own pluses and minuses, right?Suharto...well, he was declared as the father of development, he put stability above everything. no matter how many people were kidnapped, killed. What ordinary people know and remember about SUharto was everything was cheap, it was easy to get a job etc. But, my mom has trauma with it. When she was at university, some of her friends, who were active in organizations linked to leftist movement, were abducted, tortured and killed. That`s why my mom never watches any documentaries related to the coup ( G 30S). At first, I still didn`t understand why, but after learning from my history lecturer, I can understand how my mom is feeling. She lost some of her friends, imagine if it happened to your family, if you lost your parents, siblings, uncles/aunts, relatives in such a way?During suharto`s era, everything was cheap, we were well-respected in ASEAN, but please don`t forget that we were dependent on foreign aid too much!!It looked great on the surface, but the foundation was broken. People still live in poverty, but his inner circles were getting richer and richer. There are still lots of controversies about that issue, so I think we should postpone the plan to declare Suharto national hero. The most important thing after the reform is how we can have strong political will to build a better future for our people, not about revenge etc. Mandela says"lest`s forgive, but nor forget". We learn from history. We can learn from Argentina and Chile which were under the same situation while they were ruled by military regime. They forgive the past, their leaders have strong commitment to build the economy, they prove that they can survive without being too dependent on IMF and now they`re stable economically and politically. Take the positive sides of Suharto,skip the bad sides

he had give much too for Indonesian stability. many people hate and also love him at the same time. we must see people reaction before considering about that

hi advokaju sounds like Suharto may be a better candidate than this Soekarno as his goal is not to help the Indonesian people to be able to care for themselves and feed their families while heis pursing some dream os a building masterpiece and letting his people go hungry. thats just terrible advok just terrible.

It is still debatable. We need to spend many times just to decide whether Soeharto deserve it or not. We git to make a clear criteria of how a figure deserve to be called as hero or not. For me, personally I disagree with that idea. There are still many things should be reconsidered about his record. But let's ask all Indonesians. Do they OK to address Soeharto as their hero? That's the way this thing should be considered.

For me is not who rate but in accordance with existing regulations and in accordance with the community is not. What is difficult is when people refuse, between the counter or not, if indeed he deserved (the late Soeharto)and he was elected (National Hero) I agree
