Actually the tooth fairy is not a part of my culture. But I adopts it abroad because I think it is good for children when it is time for them to lose baby teeth. Lately my child is involved in changging his baby teeth. So I tell him that the tooth fairy will look at him and then give him a gift if he did a good job. I secretly bought him a musicbox on behalf of tooth fairy and he was very happy. Yesterday he had his second baby tooth pulled out and he was scared and cried in the hospital. Fortunately after that he felt OK. I bought him a remote control ship online last night and I will give it to him as soon as I receive it. He will be amazed to receive a present from the tooth fairy. I hope next time when he has the dental sealant, he will behave well.

I hate that they have made scary movies involving the tooth fairy.
I love the newer movie with The Rock in it, it's a really cure one.
We've always put money under their pillows for lost teeth and talked about the tooth fairy. I think they believe it up until a certain age.

i would never make the tooth fairy scary. whoever made the tooth fairy scary to their kids are mean and there would be no need for it. when my kids lose their teeth i tell them to put it under the pillow for the fairy to leave a present and take the tooth away

It isn't part of our culture too. I did it once with my older son...but he didn't seem too interested. so, I never bothered after that and reverted to our custom of saying some rhymes and throwing the tooth over the roof (supposed to be put inside cow dung but since it's not available...I didn't do that). I also kept the first tooth for a very long time..lol.
My younger one is just 4 and hasn't lost a tooth yet.

I can remember my parents telling me about the tooth fairy as a child...I think they did it to make the situation less scary. Some parents do encourage it and some don't...I really don't think it hurts anything.

wow... dont be angry.. but i think you're spoiling him..
i dont believe in 'Tooth Fairy' - it is indeed a nice 'Fairy Tale'..
but fact is fact.. baby tooth will fall out,to make way for permanent ones -
and yes.. it hurts when you need to pull out your teeth.. that's why you need to take very, very good care of all your teeth, especially your new, permanent teeth - so that you wont spoil them, and need to pull those out...(then no more 'replacements').
that's what i tell my children straight.. dont want them to learn those facts in school, and make them make think mommy is soooo... '?' for believing in Tooth Fairies... kids nowadays are very, very smart.. find an science-healthcare video/books, watch/read it with them - explain to them.. they'll learn fast... (no need Tooth Fairies )..
still... it is not wrong to 'reward' your child for being so brave + strong at the dentist.. but if it was me.. i will not give such expensive gifts..

I think you are reasonable. But I am afraid my child will be afraid to go to see the dentist in the future, so I will give him a present on behalf of the tooth fairy. Sometimes people need to have the drive to do somethng well? Such as the bonus will make the employee works better?

hi youless you do not have to take him to a hospital every time unless it was hard to pull out and that might scare him more than having you pull it out. we had to take our son once as the roots were tangled and it was too painful for us to try any longer the dentist numbed his gum then shot some novacaine in the gum and the actual pulling was painless then he gave my son some sugar free candy think it was a sucker and that helped a lot too. he liked the lady dentist. I did too and went to her till she got way too expensive. She had a great rapport with the kids. I always gave my son a dollar and he was tickled. we had to take our little girl to the dentist as she just simply froze. she was partly brain damaged but oh so sweet and loved everyone. pretty as picture, she wou lde remain forever six years old but sadly we lost her to pneumonia at age 8.

I won't tell about tooth fairy to my kids if i have any because it's a mild lie like Santa and so on. But i'll still buy my kids toys and read them stories because it's not my intention to make them realize what kind of world we really live in.

I do not have any kids of my own yet however when I was a child- my parents told me about the tooth fairy and I always got money when I pulled my teeth out or the doctors pull it out.. :) I loved it and when I have kids. I probably will tell them the same because then they will have something to look forward to and not be so scared.

When I was a child my parents never said anything about the tooth fairy, and I never gotten any money from losing teeth. When I have children I will most likely not say anything about the tooth fairy. I just don't see the worth of telling your children something that is fake and has no part in most cultures. I mostly think how the child will feel when they learn that there was no tooth fairy, only their parents slipping money underneath the pillows.
