I loved it. My husband liked the expanded character of Watson. I've always felt that the writer could do more with Watson. My husband is still deciding whether he likes this Holmes or not. He thinks most, including this one, speek too rapidly. But I believe that since he's supposed to be a genius and telling us what he thinks as he's thinking it, it shows how fast/what a genius he is. But I will admit that during the car scene with him talking to Watson, he spoke so rapidly, that he lost me and I'd like to watch/listen to that scene again. Of course our heater came on and created even more of a distraction. We often have to turn the sound up. So did you get a chance to watch the new version? What did you like? What did you not like?

is this the show where they are set in modern times? I've heard about it, but haven't seen it yet

I went to see the last movie and I too was lost by his speaking so fast. Of course I don't hear to well anymore and that doesn't help. I like it when there's captions so that I can read what I didn't hear. The problems of old age!

I told my husband he'd better open up the closed captions next time on the tv so we can read it.But sometimes the captioners can't keep up with normal speech.

I've tried, except for swear words, I can't seem to read lips very well.

It does happen! Maybe we'll all have to learn to read lips.

Is that the one with Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch (what a cool name!)? We watched it a couple of months ago and I really liked it. I was in two minds whether to bother because I've found a lot of things from years ago set in the modern day tend to misfire badley. Two things convinced me to watch it, one being Martin Freemand and the other Mark Gatiss (who is one of the writers and also plays Sherlock's brother). A Study in Pink is probably the weakest episode in that series so if you enjoyed that you'll love the rest of it.

I think that was the first episode that we watched was the study in pink one. I got a kick out of Sherlock's brother. He was really into the deduction, too. Thanks and take care.

Hahaha That was one of the reasons I watched it, too! Mark Gatiss is fantastic! I was interested in seeing Martin Freeman playing a role so different from the ones he usually gets. He's such an underrated actor. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree about SIP being the weakest episode. The weakest one, in the opinion of many fans of ACD's Holmes, was by far the second one, the Blind Banker.

Its wonderful! I always pictured Sherlock to be this brilliant genius but lacks the people skill intelligence. His fast talking act is to show how fast his mind can deduce, solve the case or what's right in front of him. And to him, it doesn't matter if we 'lesser beings' can't keep up with him, he doesn't care about that. What he cares about is that he has solved the case and how quickly he solved it. I like John Watson and how he subtly/unconsciously helped Sherlock develop his EQ. That with Watson by his side, Sherlock becomes more of an approachable human being rather than an arrogant one that everyone would love to punch in the face. I like Mycroft too. Both he and Sherlock have brilliant minds but the huge difference is, Mycroft actually knows how to be a people person. A statesman if you will. And the other people in the cast were great too. All the elements, the writing, the acting, the cinematography, the music, the editing, the special effects, just made this show a wonderful masterpiece. And clearly, having won a BAFTA is a stamp of its quality and excellence.

It's sad, they stopped it here after 4 shows. I need to go online and search for the rest of them.
