He smells of cigarettes

My sister and I went to a salon near my neighborhood to have our hair done. I had my hair cut and relaxed. While my hair was "curing", the person doing my hair went out for a smoke. It wouldn't have bothered me if he didn't need to wash my hair. Of course, he had to be really close to me while he shampooed my hair. I could smell the smoke in his clothes. I didn't know how to reprimand him so I just didn't say anything. Don't you think what he did was inappropriate? I mean, cigarette break is fine. But he still had to have close contact with a customer. He must knwo that he'll reek of cigarette smoke. What would you have done if you were in my place?
