Well to those who live in developed countries as well as few of those who hail from developing countries, this question may sound weird/Stupid etc. but the fact is that a number of people around the world still don't wash their hands regularly.
Every year, around the world more than 3.5 million children die to diarrhea and infections as a result of unclean hands.
Just washing hands with soap before meals and after toilet reduces the incidence if diarrhea by 40%
Now that we know the facts, it is time to spread them around the world and imagine if everyone knew and just had soap and water... we would save countless lives !!!

I agree with rajanarora and people don't take this as serious and sometimes only they wash for food but not during the day when they touch some dirt. And this is not limited to developing countries but also bad habit for people in develop countries as well. When I wash my hands several times per day, people around me laugh at me. This basic hygiene has to teach from childhood to keep our society free from diseases.

Of course i have washe my hands today as everyone does, and if the person can see this message on the internet they would be privileged enough to have running water. I do know what you mean about poorer countries not being able to due to lack of clean water though. I hope all those countries can eventually get better and the people there not be ill and die of illnesses we class as minor in richer countries.

yes, i washed my hands today and for me that is a good habit. some people on our village dont understand that and they name the person who does that as so vain or overacting and the like. there is no equivalent word for english in the dialect they used. they dont understand it's purpose.

Welcome to MYLOT rajan,
That nice information you passed by this discussion. I do wash my hands with soap before eating something & after toilet. This is a habit from my childhood as my parents were so strict for it they never allowed me to eat something before i get my hands washed from soap. There are people who donot care for it & suffer from the consequences.
May be some people will get their habits improved by reading this discussion.
