Wouldn't it be nice to have a piece of land with no neighbors at least 5 kilometers around you? To go there and do whatever you want without thinking someone will see you. To just relax in the grass and enjoy freedom? Don't know where you live, maybe you have that already but i don't. My dream home would be in such place with a creek or lake flowing over my land and house would be designed by me, i'd have internet and everything else one wants. What's your idea of dream home, is it similar to mine? Or do you love to be surrounded by people?

One can be as alone as in the woods, while still living in a concrete jungle, if he wants to. All he has to do is to remain secluded within confines of his four walls. If you do not smile at others no one would smile at you. If you do not talk to others no one would talk to you. Why do we live in society? It is because we are gregarious in nature. We as human Instinctively and temperamentally seek company of others. We do not like solitude. It is all right to picnic near a lake on a gorgeous
Sunday once in a while; but certainly not always. To live without neighbors at least five kilometers around me is not my cup of tea.

I don't agree with you that you can be secluded and especially you can't enjoy piece in your flat if neighbor starts drilling into your wall. Also you have to go out and buy food so you do have to talk to people and they will talk to you. Some hate solitude, some can live with it most of the time or are forced to. Anyway i did understand what you meant and it would be that world is as you make it. Personally i'm disappointed every day by people i know or i just met and even tho i'm not very negative i want to have peace just with my girlfriend for a few days or sometimes even without her. No hard feelings and thank you for your comment, good luck to you.

You did not tell me you want to be alone with your girlfriend for a few days. I thought you wanted to be alone all by yourself forever.

I found my dream home months ago, but I couldn't buy it as I didn't have the money to buy it.
It was out on a quiet country road, 3,000 square foot house, split between the main floor and the basement, 6 bedrooms total.
The basement had heated floors, and all the rooms were quite large.
It was on over 100 acres, with a view of lake Ontario, with no neighbors at all close by.
It had a barn and pastures, also a nice stream.
That would be my dream home, lots of space and freedom.

If I had won the lottery, I would have bought that home, and hired a maid :)

I would want a place just like you imagined but maybe I would want a neighbor nearer than 5 kilometers away. I want to be surrounded by nature. I want to be in a place where my children can run around without me worrying that a car might hit them. I want somewhere where we can go outside and have a picnic right in our backyard and go swimming with my family. That would be so nice :)

Yes I think that would be really really nice!!
I dream of living in a place not so far from the city but not so near with it.. I want that because I think that if we live in a far off place, then it things would be kind of difficult for us.. So I'd stay with neutral distance..
My dream house would be one that's built solo, I mean, not side by side with neighbor's houses.. I'd love to have a big garden filled with flowers and some trees.. And then I want a little playground for my kid with it..
With that, I think we would need a big lot to be able to achieve my dream home..Because in addition, I'd like to build a tree-house also..
I don't really like being surrounded by people.. I want to be very private, and so my dream place would be a private one..

How does a 10 minute drive to nearest population sound? Would work for me. There's a lot of work with flowers so i'd rather plant something i can use and flowers that don't need much care. Tree house isn't that hard to build and i like the idea a lot i'll add it to my dream house. I also don't like being surrounded by people like you. Thank you for taking time to share your dreams with me, hope they come true

Right about now that actually sounds great. A place where you can get away from it all, hear no one complain, get a way from your fraustrations. Just sit down and relax, disconnect from everything work, school. Sit down in front of a lake, having the wind blown in my hair, enjoying the peacefulness.
Wow, I actually wish I was there right now, god knows I need a break from this place.
Sometimes I like being around people, but lately it's been that I just want to get away from it all. Disappear where no one can find me.

This sounds just about what I have in mind, only 5 km seems a bit extreme. I could settle for 0,5-1 km depending on the terrain. So that you only get a glimpse of another home in sight but it's far enough to not see the details. Idea is that you never know when you choke on a pea like we say around here.. Something is on fire.. You simply need someone.. You need help with something.. You never know. 1km is reasonable to walk or even crawl. I'm being a bit pessimistic I think :)
On the bright side, a lake would be absolutely necessary, even a small pond, or a string of water crossing the land. House designed by me of course and lots of animals, mainly small ones like cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchilla.. birds of all kinds, chicken, geese, ducks, pigeons, parrots.. maybe even some lizards and snakes, and goats :) I'd settle for everything with only me and my better half, and the eventual family we'd build, and no human closer than a common sense emergency proximity. It would be ideal.

You reminded me that i also want some pets but not dogs...it's not that i don't like them i just don't want to wake up every night. I like your idea of seeing your neighbors in the distance Like you i'd live with my partner so she wouldn't have to crawl or she would call help for me. Distant neighbors that see fire that's all i need. Thanks for sharing your dream place with me, i like it a lot

I think that would be nice. I actually just bought my dream home down in Tennessee. I have 5 acres of land and I can't see my neighbors behind the trees. It's absolutely beautiful and I get to feed all the furry animals and birds. My daughter on the other can't make up her mind. She loves the water and the mountains. I offered her an acre of land to put her own house when her and her husband were ready and she drew up this four level house she wants him to build for her. I think she knows what she wants she just has to find a way to get it now.

Lucky you 5 acres is a nice parcel. I just might get 0.5 acre of land from my grandfather but it is away from neighbors so it'll be a great place for picnics or camping, who knows maybe even a weekend. Hope your daughter makes the wright decision and they build house fast because in our country it's almost a habit that people build houses their whole life and than finish them just before they go and leave them to kids.

You're one year older than my grandfather. I've been helping him for a few days and he is the one that actually wanted to give me this land with shed he has...that was also the inspiration for this discussion. Being alone at this age is certainly not safe so i understand you. You also use computer and so does my grandfather. Keep it up and i wish you health for as long as you want Thank you for your comment

My dream home would be located out in the country, similar to what you would like, however; I would not want to live to far from town. I would love to have enough land to be able to start my plant nursery the way I want it to be, and also to be able to help children at risk. I think that I have a lot to offer children and teenagers and if God ever gives me the opportunity to have a lot of land with plenty of room for kids to run around and play, I will surely do just that.
The main reason I do not want to live very far from town is just in case of an emergency. I want to have the security of knowing that if necessary, I would be able to get to the hospital in a timely manner. I also hate the thought of ever being stranded out in the middle of nowhere in case of a bad storm. Here, where I live, we tends to have pretty harsh winters and the country roads are often hard to get through. So, by living closer to town, it would be a lot easier to get out when needed.

In my case winters are mild but snow would still be a problem thanks for pointing that out. As i said to another mylotter i forgot to say i'd live with my gf so we could rely on each other. How nice of you i bet kids would love your place. I didn't mean i'd want to live hours away from cities it would be 20 minute drive but just not to have neighbors like 10 meters away or under, below, left and right in my case(i live in a flat). Thanks for sharing your dream with us, hope it comes true

it always feel great to be able to do what you like freely.. but I would not like to be in such a place where there is no one who will see what I am doing. I like to live in a place where people will see me and I am able to interact with them.. being in such a far away place will be enjoyable only for few days..
