I came in to a meeting at work today and I was surprised at what of one of the managers was wearing. He got on an acid wash jeans which was obviously circa 1987! Normally, I wouldn’t notice these kinds of things, and we don’t have a dress code at work or anything, but this guy is normally smartly-dressed. Obviously he has had some issues with his closet today.
So, have you ever had a pair of acid wash jeans? Is it still lingering around your closet? When was the last time you wore it? What do you tell 1987 if it calls?

Hi bounce~ Unfortunately, or fortunately that look is very much
back! Call it "acid wash" "tye dyed" or whatever, but it has
been "in" for awhile now, at least here in NY and on the most
famous "Runways" it seems! Don't ask me! And people pay alot
of money to get that look, believe it or not! I don't know
why fashion always seems to go in circles, but it does~

This guy wearing the acid washed jeans is more fashion conscious. He's right up there! Yes fashion always travels in circles, and for that reason I never throw out anything. I pack it away carefully and wait about 15 years and Presto its back in style again(I can't believe you didn't notice how smartly dressed this man was!)

Yeah, but the thing is, I'm sure this thing he was wearing wouldn't match up with the latest ones that just came out. The fit was a bit old-fashioned. It was loose on top with pleats, and a bit tight at the bottom. So obviously this was really, really old pants.

Question, was this manager old enough to be living during 1987? The kids usually bring back some item from 20+ years ago. I never had acid washed but I do wear my jeans until they fade from dark blue to light blue! and I Loved 1987! So if he calls I would go back. The movies were better and so was the music! and this time I would be happier, lol!

Oh yes, he looks old enough to be living in 1987. He could have been a pimply teenager then, but I'm sure he was around. And I would guess that the jeans he was wearing was around 1987 and maybe was in his closet too.
Confession alert! I loved the new wave music back in 1987. I even have some in my ipod still.

I hate those pants but they actually are back in sytle. Styles go around and around in circles about every 20 years things come back and are popular. Usually they are changed slightly though so you cant really keep the clothes and then wera them again 20 years later and have them be exactly what is out in stores now. For example in the 70s they had bell bottoms in the 90s they had flares which are very toned down bell bottoms. I love flares thats pretty much all I wear. He very likely didnt buy them in the 80s and keep them he probably went to the store and just bought a new pair. Some styles I hated so much thats its like you never want to see them again like skinny ankle jeans but ugh of course there back in style now :(

But I'm sure that these pants were from the 80's. The fit was a bit old fashioned. It was loose on top and it had pleats. At the bottom it was a bit tight, and it was a little worn out. So, that made me think that it was from the past.
From the responses here, I've learned that they are indeed back! And apparently they are now called 'black acid wash' jeans.

I had several pairs of jeans but don't think they were acid washed. Can't remember. I would tell 1987 that I was happier in 1988. In 1987 I was burnt out by teaching High School students - often 67 to a class. It was when I woke up in the mornings just dreading to go to school that I realised that I had to leave for my sake and the sake of my students.
I think that the fact that my husband begun to have mega health issues also forced me to look elsewhere to earn more money as I had 4 children at school.
Sometimes we have to accept the face of life that is turning to us and then move, wipe away the tears, and just get on with life. Blessings

Well, I guess there were no acid wash jeans for you in 1988. I couldn't imagine associating this style with happiness.
That must have been very difficult for you. To give it all up, and look for something else. But I'm glad that it certainly worked out for you.
67 to a class?! The biggest I was in was 60, and even my teacher back then needed an assistant teacher to handle all of us.

Was that a 1987 thing? I remember that hip huggers and bell bottoms were early 70's, lace ups were later in the 70's, also high waist jeans. After that, everything's a blur.

So, is that what they call it? Black acid wash?
Fancy name for something that is not very original. I'm sure that the next time I will be in a mall, I would keep an eye out for it. Maybe there would even pairs for me! And then I would get the flashback.
Thanks.

Yeah, I don't think the world is ready for those types of jeans yet... Although I have seen some goofy stuff that is not old enough to be "classic" and therefore brought back again - you know? Such as with the bright-colored skinny jeans, multi-colored leggings, and so on. You do have to applaud them for their bravery/audacity, though. Not too many people are secure enough to wear something like that out in public, no less at work.

Well, the moment I see people at work wearing the bright-colored skinny jeans or multi-colored leggings, then I would surely know that the 80's are back. And maybe I will start digging out clothes at the very back of my closet. Who knows what will I find there? Or will I even have the courage to wear them at work?
Thanks maezee.

I didn't wear acid washed jeans when they were popular and I definitely wouldn't wear them now. That said, I don't think that 1987 is going to be calling my house anywhere in the near future. That said, they do say that everything that used to be in style is going to eventually come back into style again and maybe the guy and his jeans are just trying to rush the jeans into coming back into style so he can wear them more frequently.

Oh no honey they went out with the times. Apparently the manager does not dress down much and well figured this would be his casual day. He is stuck back in the day.

That would be horrible! When someone who is always dressed in business attire, but when it's time to dress down, there is nothing in his closet but a pair of acid wash jeans! It would be better for him to just wear his regular office outfit, than be judged as being stuck 'back in the day'.
Thanks.

Oh yeah, I remember the acid washed jeans. I was a fashion victim of that too. There is this one particular brand, which I think launched the acid jeans line ( i could not say the brand because I might get deleted). It was so popular that acid was jeans was always synonymous to this brand. I don't think I could have the guts to wear it now. :-)

If we keep something long enough, it will eventually come back into fashion. It's not surprising that acid wash jeans have made a comeback. Who knows what will be in fashion tomorrow.
