are faith healers true?

When I was playing with my pet dogs, one bit me. They still don't have anti-rabies shots but their mother had one before she got pregnant with them. Then I suddenly remembered the story from my college professor about some faith healers he experienced. I don't know what they are called exactly. Quack doctors or faith healers, I sometimes think they are real. My college professor's story goes like this: He was bitten by a rabid dog when he was 5 years old. They didn't have the money to get a shot. So the virus spread to his nerves going to the brain. He said he had symptoms and signs of having rabies. He drools a lot then he was hallucinating. Then his mother decided to bring him to the local healers. There the ritual began. He remembered the healer was behind him and chanted something. Then he did something that my professor can't describe what he was doing. He told us it was like the healer drank the virus (or what they called evil spirit) from him using a straw-like object. He was prescribed to drink an herbal plant every Wednesday night for 3 months. Until now, he is ok. I don't know if it is true but a lot of people said it is. Do you have a story to share something like this?

It's really an enigma whether faith healers are true/effective or not. Our beliefs about faith healers have been greatly influenced by our culture and our own experiences as well. Although there is still no proof or scientific evidence if they can really cure or treat any kind of disease or illness, I think they still contribute a lot in our society. They give less fortunate sick people a chance or opportunity to be treated, another option aside from costly medical treatments which they cannot afford. At least they can still be given attention or aid rather than doing nothing because they have no money for modern healthcare treatments. Well, maybe they can really treat some diseases or illnesses through conventional methods or herbal treatments which are acknowledge even at this day. I also like the thought that somehow, they give hope to those who have serious unknown cases. Although they may not really treat them, it's still different when a sick person gains hope and gets his/her soul uplifted. There's something about hope that makes a sick person feel better, get well sooner, or at least live longer if he is terminally ill than someone who have lost hope and faith. Maybe they are called faith healers because of this reason or purpose. It's really up to us if we will still patronize them and believe that they are true. =)

They do contribute hope to society. But I am frightened, as a nurse, that they'll rely on them for serious diseases. American Indians have their own rituals and belief and I am curious to those kind of stuff.

I'm also a nurse. It's good to know you are too. With our gained knowledge about health in general, it's quite frightening indeed that some people's condition might get more serious because of solely relying on them. But no one can impose what they should do when they get sick or who they will go to. We can only provide them as much health education as possible and inform them of other available options like free health services provided by the government. =)

If they try to heal based on the faith of other spiritual elements, that's gothic and eerie. They can work by this kind of ritual but won't do you any good in the future since you have seeked healing from a medium-like person who opens spirtiual realm to let the manifestation of power work over him.

It is pretty eerie. I heard some stories about dwarfs cursing little children. They curse them by giving them large boils or rashes. They doctors can't diagnose and cure it. When the mother gave up, she rushed the child to the local faith healers. There, they performed the rituals. The next day, the boils were gone. Creepy eh?

Well, heard those even before. My co-worker did the same. Every night she has fever and is unable to breathe, she felt like a boulder is on her chest. She did several laboratory tests and to no avail found nothing. That's when her mom decided to bring her to a faith healer and after that she got better. But for me, I'd rather pray and cling my faith to God than let the rituals manifest over my body. Afterall, God is the god of everything and I don't think there could ever be greater power than His.

some are true.. some are not.. I used to believe on them when I was a child, but while I grow up, I realized that not all of them are.. My parents always bring me or my brothers to faith healers whenever we're sick, but not all times we get well so they need to bring us to another faith healers.. I used to go to my sister-in-law's house.. Her mother knows how to heal some sickness.. She used to rub my back and then she'll absorb something and will spit something, she told me that she spitted the bad auras.. but after the session, i felt so comfortable..

When I purposefully kicked my brothers arm when we were still young, his wrist got twisted. So my parents decided to bring him to my neighbor who also knew those kind of stuff. They just rubbed something they made then the pain and swelling were all gone after an hour. I think they have ghost around them. They even have those amulets that protects them. Their house is protected by ancient guardians. I don't know if it is true. But their house has a creepy feeling as if someone is watching you.

I believe it. My uncle do faith healing but only for those who believe that they'll be healed and for those who have faith in God! Most of the faith healers use their talent to earn money for living, but my uncle doesn't. No money involved at all! He does it because he wants to help.

How do they do that? I am really curious of its strangeness. I know they wont tell you because it is a secret. Maybe there are spirits that likes to help people. I believe in tree guardians since we have a big mango tree in the garden.

I think I know what you mean. It's not a straw but it's a fang. The quack doctor would cut the wound to make it bigger to get the fang inside and he would suck the rabies out of the victim's body. It might be effective but it's quite dangerous because the fang actually may not be sterilized and it could cause more damage. But in the Philippines since most people are immune to dirt then infection would be a very rare case. But these quack couldn't remove the tetanus from the victim's body so it still is dangerous.

I can't remember the details he told us. Really? A fang? Scary. Thankfully my professor didn't die of tetanus. But getting an anti-tetanus shot is much cheaper. LOL. It is hard to believe, really. He is alive and kicking with a family now. There are things that just can't be explained.

Yes it is true that there are faith healers and they are doing a great job. Actually the knowledge they have is very old, they know about treatment of every disease. The modern medical science is based on that knowledge. Now we are getting medicine, injections, all these are based on that traditional knowledge. We are now using modern technologies to get tablets etc but they are giving the same cure in natural form. I have seen this that a snake bitten person became healthy without medicine, by only eating a lot of onions till he started vomiting, there are other examples too. I think it is true and it is only the basic form of Modern medical science...:_

Really? But I am glad doctors don't have to perform those rituals. It is scary and weird. Good thing that it is a modern era but traditional healing has contributed greatly to us even now. I believe that "tawa2x" is the only cure for Dengue and faith healers discovered it first.

Kind of makes one wonder what that herbal plant was. One might also investigate whether rabies is fatal to everyone. I bet some people survive regardless.

He forgot what is was. Maybe it was from some weird plant. Maybe it worked. I don't know. He is still alive. But I can't seem to connect science and miracles. How can one make those virus disappear from the nerves with the use of enchantments.

Oh! I also forgot to add regarding faith healers... It's all up to you if will believe to them or not... It's still in your faith that heals... Not some spiritual healers... But if you have the money, go to a doctor and not depend to faith healers...

Because of poverty, a lot of people seek medical attention to faith healers. If the condition worsens, they consult in the hospital. But it's too late. Then they blame the doctor for not doing their best.

You still need to have an anti-rabies shot even if dogs has an antirabies shot... Just a precaution... My neighbor's daughter was bitten by a dog then they had an anti rabies shot. When they were in the hospital waiting for their turn, they saw a man who s already drooling and hallucinating. They assumed that he got the rabies. But later on, they were told that that man was bitten a year ago and doesn't do anything and didn't get a rabies shot... the rabies manifested in his body system after a year... So just a precaution.... Get an antirabies shot... Well, you'll never know....

I have heard similar stories before, where people bitten by dog were healed by faith healers. I was stung by a black scorpion once. I felt excruciating pain surging through my arm. There was a faith healer around. He recited some mumbo-jumbo and lo, the pain disappeared. It gave me a relief faster than any medicine would have given. I have a scientific explanation for it. Our own body's sympathetic nervous system reacts when we are hurt. It releases the toxin needed to heal the injury. Our own body is able to produce about 200 such toxins. Our body is not able to produce an antidote for snake bite. Only horse is able to produce that antidote. Therefore, they extract the vaccine out of a vein near Horse's neck, mix it with saline and inject it in humans who suffer snake bite. Faith healers invoke sympathy for the person who is afflicted by dog bite, scorpion sting or snake bite. While doing so they induce victim's sympathetic nervous system to produce an antidote, which their own body is able to produce. It is then victims own body, which heals itself.

No, you shouldn't be relaxed. You would never know if the person treating you is a quack or a real faith healer. Further, how do we know that it is doctor's sympathy or the medicine, which heals you? Once Dr. Prakash Kothari a leading Indian sexologist had passed a comment in a medical conference; he said that if a doctor gives his patient even a plain glass of water saying it is a medicine for his ailment, then surely the patient would be healed. Other doctors had rebuked him over this statement and he had to apologize to entire medical community. Concerning your question, did I go to a doctor after faith healer had healed me let me tell you no, I didn't.

So the next time I am bitten by a dog or scorpion, I'll just be relaxed? Now I'm wondering what those enchantments were. It fascinates me that not only science can make cure for such illness/diseases. Good thing a faith healer was around you at that time. Black scorpion is really dangerous. But didn't you go to the doctor after that?

Hello beeh13u, There are a lot of healers doing that but for me I don't believe them if they only make miracle to heal person because of the power of evil spirit. If i have a disease or big problems in my life God is the first I look for and pray to help me. We know that God is powerful of them all. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Since you said that they are called evil spirits, definitely they are not true. Always remember that Satan came here to steal, kill and destroy. And doing that as a miracle, satan is stealing the minds of people to have faith on those so called faith healers and not to depend on God. If someone is sick or in a critical condition, lay your hands upon him and pray to be healed in Jesus Name.. and next thing to do is bring him to the doctor. Doctors are used by God to heal us.

My professor told us the story. He said evil spirits, not me. I am not religious, so for me, the best is to go to the doctor, of course. I am a woman of science not religion. But I respect those who believe in God.
