I have got four Dogs with me. I give them milk, boiled cracked wheat, eggs , some oil, chicken and some times meat. they are well grown and since they stay on farm they keep themselves fit by undergoing a lot of exercise by running all around the Farm. Being Vet, I have come across many a people and having interacting with them, I have got some interesting facts which I would like to share with fellow Dog lovers on this site. Some people simply give vegetarian feed to their Digs and these poor creatures don't know what is non- Veg at all. they are very adapted to this and they are healthy in every aspect. I have seen some Dogs which consume raw vegetables and they have craze for these vegetables. They start salivation at the moment they come to see these vegetables getting cut. Few people they treat their dogs like their kids and they feed each and everything what they eat at home including toffees and cold drinks! Some people are superstitious and they keep their dogs away from Oil and Salt, of course they must have started feeding these things after my advice! Some people keep their Dogs just on meat and only meat! In all the above cases I have seen that the dogs get adjusted to these feeding habits and they are enjoying their life with good health and temperament. Now, what all you feed to your Dog and how fussy your dogs are in taking these foodstuffs? Please respond! Thanks !

I have two 3 dogs right now. We feed them rice with fish soup and a little bit of meat and vegetables. They really like fish soup. They don't like eating food from a can. I think it has a funny smell and taste from the metal. I read from an article that dogs are not allowed to eat garlic and onion. I was so scared because we add those in our soup.

Yes Dear Beeh, Dogs love home made food than the ready made food available in the market. I sometimes feel that they can understand the feeling and affection with which this food is being prepared them. They do full justice to eat by eating. One feels satisfied and pleasant to see the empty dishes of the Dogs after their lunch and dinner! Thanks for the response!

I mainly feed my Lola dog food. But she doesn´t like it very much, specially since she has tasted some interesting leftovers from my kitchen. So I cheat. I give har her dog food ( a little less) and pour over it chicken soup or the water from a tuna can or even a wonderful veggie soup with everything. Dometimes, when I buy fish, I ask for the head, tail and fins and make hear a good soup. I have a lon time taking some bits of fish meat and she loves that. I do worry not to give her food that has too much salt though. I don´t mind about a bit of oil as the vet said that a spoon of oil would make her fur more beautiful.

Dear Marguicha, That is a common problem we dog lovers face from our fussy, over pampered Dogs. I also dis the same mistake and today if I fail to give them chicken all the four Dogs look into my face as if they are asking me, 'Well what's wrong...Where is the Chicken?'! LOL ! I think it is personal attention and care what they want more than the taste of the food, because some times my wife simply add some bland food prepared in the Kitchen to their food when they leave the food to make them eat! Surprisingly they lick their bowl just with this change at we we laugh for our selves. Basically it is the possessive nature of Dogs which makes them to call in attention every time from their respective owners , that's why I believe they behave in such fashion! Thanks for responding and I appreciate your style of feeding your Dog as I am also sailing in the same boat! LOL!

Mine get Purina Dog Chow. I know lots of people don't like it, but every vet check they've ever had has been a glowing report of their health. Great teeth, perfect weight, great coats, clear eyes- the absolute picture of health. :)

Yes dear Keepee, I agree that most of the times they get accustomed to the feed given to them. being scavengers in nature they have got digestive system capable of digesting both Veg and Non Veg dishes efficiently ! So I really don't wonder if your doing well on Purina Dog Chow! All the best and Thanks for responding!

Hi! I did extensive research on feeding dogs as I wanted to stop feeding my dogs commercially made food. A dog should have %30 vegetables, 30% starch (rice, oatmeal etc) and 40% meat. Dogs are omnivores. I make my own dog food. Its usually oatmeal, carrots and either pork roast, lean ground beef, eggs or turkey. I have three dogs and they are all incredibly healthy and fit. My guys love their food and gooble it right down everytime!

Hi Imphavo, I really appreciate that you did a lot of research and have come up with the food formulation for your dogs which is working wonders for your Dogs! Congratulations and you deserve a special compliment and sincere appreciation for this fantastic job! If your guys are eating their food every time with equal zeal and enthusiasm means they are liking their food and they must be really thanking you and must be waiting for their next meal! All the best to you and to your guys. Thanks for responding!

I feed my pup home made food out of varied ingredients so he won't get bored of it. Mainly: boiled rice/wheat/potatoes with some carrots/tomatoes/peppers and about 1/3 kidney/liver/lung and a bit of salt like I'd put in human food. Sometimes I give him either milk/cream/yogurt and bread/corn bread/biscuits or fresh cow cheese. Once in a while a dog treat to chew on or a boiled pork knuckle-bone, never chicken bones cause he might choke on them. Only very very rarely I drop some chocolate, so he won't drool when I eat it. Also, not as an intention but discovering the fact he loves them, I give him all kinds of fruit.

That is one of the good way of feeding your Dog. By doing so Dogs they don't bored and they enjoy their feed. Dogs being omnivores can digest both vegetarian and non vegetarian food with equal efficiently. Your Dog must be enjoying his meal and he must be appreciating you for this . Idea of giving boiled pork knuckle bone is good, I agree that Chicken bones get stuck in the food pipe or some times in the oral cavity itself. Dogs love chocolates,Ice creams and cakes in similar way the kids they do. Yes they love fruits too! Thanks for responding!
