Those "unexpected" presents

Since its almost November I thought I could get away with a Christmas discussion One year, many years ago, when I was young and slim... I wrote my Christmas list and asked Santa to get me "something my husband would like to see me in". I even added the appropriate measurements/sizes. What did I get as my "main" present?? A metal filing box to keep all the household documents in... Need I say more? Had any good gifts yourself??

ohhh...i also had a present from my bf today. i didnt know he sent me a parcel and today i went to the post office to get it. it was so sweet. some girlie stuff i wanted. the ones we just talked about when we had our last travel. but there were letters of love and glittering little hearts inside. too many that when i opened each box and wrappers they fell on my hands.

Hiya wizzy, You need say no more. I would not have liked that as a present either. It´s like when you think you are going to get a present and they don´t buy you anything. But then they buy you a present out of the blue when it´s nothing to do with Christmas or Birthdays. These lot in this House are like that so I am used to their way of being. When you ask about any good gifts yourself do you mean the ones that you never wanted but they seem to think that for some reason you would like them (grin)? Suppose it´s the thought that counts. Same as when I eventually get the money for a pair of shoes from his Lord and Master and then they try to tell you what sort of Shoes you should buy and where to buy them from. However with me they don´t get their own way I buy what I please now whether they like it or not. Hope you get a much better present this Year. Like the one you are wishing for right now. I don´t know what that present is but it must be something special you would like and not a washing machine in particular.

Somehow, a metal filing box didnt smack of "thought" to me Yes, I just buy what I think... often on impulse so NOT what people expect! As to what I'm wishing for right now... well, money can't buy them.

Hiya wizzy, I am laughing a little here about what you have said there. See what you mean but they bought it and that´s it. Well I can only imagine what you are wishing for if money can´t buy them. Just hope they are worth it, come to think of it they must be. Still can´t think what they could be though as we are all so different.

I do not do lists, no one pays attention. I got cardinal themed items purchased last minute last year. Hot pads, kitchen towel, oh, and a shirt. End of the holiday season, and that is what I receive. It is the thought that counts, however. I am hinting already, but mostly I figure I just will shop for myself.

Sometimes we want specific things for Christmas. But if we don't get what we want, we feel bad. But every Christmas, I ask my friends what they specifically want and I really try to give it to them. But, I also consider the financial aspect. If the gift they want is expensive, I find gifts which is related to their interest so that even if they don't get what they want, they will get what they like. The same goes for me. I also tell my friends what I want for Christmas, and most of the time, it is not what I want that they give me but what I like or what I can use. Most of the time, I ask for books. But because some books are expensive, they give me planners, ballpens, bags which I also like. Maybe we should be thankful that there are still people who are willing to give us gifts. As what they say, "it's the thought that counts!".

Of course, to be given any gift shows that someone cares (or feels an obligation) I had other nice gifts that year and I did use the filing box. As someone pointed out, having asked for something he'd like to see me in, I should be grateful it wasnt a coffin!! It has just become one of those family jokes now.

I feel that these men are sooo desperate to find us something for Christmas, that they start to think:what does she need. I think we are all easy to buy for....but, not so for men apparently. i have gotten Central-vacs, washing machine, electric knife, etc and etc. You are not the only one out there who gets these kinds of gifts, Wizzywig.....and you won't be the last. Merry Christmas, my friend.

Ah, yes, all good useful presents but things that we would prefer to be purchased from the household budget. May you get lovely frivolous gifts this Christmas

Hiya Wizz, When I read that bit about the Filing Cabinet here is what comes to mind have not seen this one in ages as we don´t have English Television this side of the World. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do Laughter is the best present you can give or have from anyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVPq6WVlpo8&feature=channel Not an affiliate link by the way it´s a comedy scene about a disaster with the Filing Cabinet. Hey, it really must be old home week... you're the third person I haven't heard from for a while suddenly dropping by. Who'll be next? Grandpa Bob? Our first Christmas, my husband got me a pair of pink fuzzy slippers, "because I didn't have a pair"... The reason I didn't have a pair of slippers was that I've hated slippers ever since having to wear them in kindergarten...

Ha! no, I dont do slippers either - but I always get my mum a pair, along with her other gifts, because I know she'll expect them so wont buy herself any in the run up to Christmas.

Wow, I can't believe it, out of all the present in the world, they had to pick a metal filing cabinet. That was very appropriate for a christmas present... Actually about two years ago, my husband surprised me. I always played around with him that on our 5th year anniversary I wanted to upgrade my wedding ring. And the year of our anniversary he surprised me that christmas with a beautiful ring. He is amazing...

Yes, surprises can be lovely... I would normally prefer to receive something I wasn't expecting but, on that occasion I'd hoped for something a tad more frivolous

One year when i was still young.Im still young but not the point. When i was younger i should say,i asked for a pony. What i got instead was a nintendo gamecube which i still have today.Of course now i know that i got it from my dad instead of santa but i still believe in santa a little.

Well,a pony is a pretty big ask and its upkeep would have been far more costly than the gamecube Maybe you'll get your own pony one day, if you still want it
