This issue always gives everybody the headache. What do you think can help solve or at least lessen its occurrence? One problem I see are those buses loading and unloading anywhere they feel like it.

Dax, the EDSA problem requires cooperation from everyone. The bus drivers need the discipline, and the operators need to ensue this. It is their responsibility. In the meantime, motorists could avoid EDSA in the near future, for their own sake and sanity. I have not plied the avenue since 23 June. And I am far better safe in the alternative routes...

very true eileen. But as Dax mentioned, you could easily avoid EDSA if you have the privilege of having your own car. Commuters have no choice but to traverse the major roads --- thus passing EDSA is inevitable. You can take alternative routes but that would actually be more expensive. ..which reminds me ...Christmas is just around the corner! Get ready for a gridlock!

The problem is more likely to persist because there are more and more vehicles using EDSA while the road is not getting wider. It can be likened to a drainage, the more trash you put in it the more likely it's going to clog. As more and more people are buying cars while those who already have are still buying more while keeping the old ones, what can you expect? However there are several ways on how to lessen traffic. First is to have more and bigger couches in the MRT. The current size of the trains being used seems more like a joke that I think those who planned it weren't thinking that there are more commuters using EDSA than any other roads in metro manika or maybe a big chunk of the budget got corrupted . Second solution is to eliminate colurum buses. Third is to have a time interval among buses so they don't have to out race each other just to get more passengers, endangering not only the commuters but other vehicles as well. Fourth is to have more taxes imposed on those who would like to own a second and any succeeding vehicles. This will encourage the rich to just own one vehicle. If they want a second or third car then they have to pay dearly for it. Fifth is to have walkways and bike lanes and encourage every one to just walk or use bicycle instead since not only it is a healthy option, it's environment friendly too.

the points you mentioned are good. If all of the suggestions you raised were implemented, it would definitely lessen the traffic along EDSA --- and maybe ease our headaches a bit. :) Sometimes you just want to get home after a looong day at work... it really sucks that you have to endure the insane traffic along our major highways.

i think the traffic in edsa is getting less and less congested. at least it is moving especially if you choose to go through the underpass. of course, it is still low because of too much cars and buses. another help that can ease the traffic in edsa is the completion of c5. once it is completed, then there will be less cars passing through edsa. take alternative routes if you can.

good point. I hope that C5 project would be completed soon. It's helpful to take alternative routes, but I find it easy when I have a car along, else, commuting through other routes could be a hassle.

It's been a problem for years. I'd hate to sound pessimistic, but I think the problem would not go away anytime soon. So many factors at work here, and the real underlying issue is really discipline. Until drivers, commuters, and the authorities learn this, I think the problem will persist for a loooooong time. Some parts of EDSA get congested not because of traffic volume. One particular example I could site is in Munoz corner EDSA. The jeepneys who virtually park there to get passengers cause the gridlock. As corny as it may sound, I think the solution should really start with each and everyone of us. I'm a commuter too so I know that my getting off at the designated bus/jeepney stops, no matter how trivial it may sound, actually affects the flow of traffic.
