Yesterday, Monday was Nationwide Baranggay Election. The original schedule was 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. My mother wake me up and remind me that I should get up to vote or I might get late. It was past 8:00 am, I ate my small breakfast and set to my old school. It was more or less 10:00 am that I arrived. I search for my precinct no. and found it atlast, nobody inside, I ask the old man and he said that it's not yet starting. A watcher approach me and told me the same thing. I've sat on the chair and waited, the ballot and teachers arrive at 11:00 am, after a few mins. I went out on the precinct to fall in line, my gosh it was 12:00 nn and still they are not yet starting. I guess the watchers votes first. I hate this old man who smoke while in queue, if only I can scold him, I hate cigarette smoke. I know that there are people who waited more hours than mine, share your experience.

Whoa! That was very late! I served as a poll clerk last baranggay election and we started on time. We didn't have problems in our precinct.

Good for you that your Baranggay started just in time. I am nearly losing my poise and my mind, I should have still lying in bed that time.

hi laniekins I'm also from philippines and I am not wondering about their system but, here in Davao we have smooth and peaceful election specially in our barangay the only problem I encountered was having hard time looking for my precinct because of the fire happened a month ago.

It also took time for me to find my precinct no. cause it is not chronological order. I mean you have to search all over the School to find your precinct.

This has been happening over and over again. Being outside the country, it’s really frustrating to hear violence news related to the Barangay election. Vote buying was also rampant in many places. When will this scenario be change?

I don't know when, this has been "nakasanayan na" every election. I heard also about vote buying, even famous Politician do this. If I were the voter, I will accept the money but will not vote for him/her, they will loose money and the position just to teach them lesson.

Glad to hear that from a real voter. And sheesh -- talk about discipline, everyone? That is what I really don't like about this nation. No wonder at most cases -- we end up late and disastrous like in your case. I'm not ranting off though it's really tiresome and annoying. I'm no voter so I'm really glad to hear your opinion as well. I didn't really see anything like that in the media. All I saw were issues about vote buying even when the voting was already ongoing and so much other blurbs. And remember that this election, we had manual voting. NOT AUTOMATED. -.-' I hope this counts, -Jaja

I also don't understand why this is a manual voting. I thought that the system happen only in our Baranggay but in entire nation. I also heard of killings aside from vote buying. This is the system that every one grew up, so it might be every candidate will exercise this system again and again.

Yeah, I was surprised actually, I thought they were starting when I arrived not until I heard people clap their hand and yell to joy, it was the ballot boxes and the teachers arrived. I thought it was only our precinct who is not started, but to my surprise the entire precinct is waiting for them.

Actually the Barangay elections was more disastrous than the national elections. I really don't find the reasons of why such a disaster happened. I mean, usually National Elections are more disastrous than barangay elections.

I also can't imagine why it turned to be a disaster, it is just a simple Baranggay Election. Only one Baranggay Captian and 7 Councilors to vote so nothing much work to do. My mother urge me to be a Watcher, I refuse cause I want to take my vacation to take rest and sleep rather than having problem at the election.

It is out of my expectation in Philiphine. What kind of system you have in your place? Those in-charge should be sacked. It never happened in Malaysia for so many years. Philiphine and Malaysia are both at the same region. It is so near to our East Malaysia, Sabah too. Both of them are developing about the same time and it shouldn't be so much different. Malaysian CAN (Boleh)!

I think Filipino's time will never change, the ballot boxes arrived late, it's Comelec's fault. I don't know why they can't arrive early. Politics in the Philippines is so hot just like in other countries.

So sad to hear that it was late. what was the problem why they were late? In my place they started early but i vote around 12 noon and i didn't experience that could make messed up my day the voting run smoothly even in the counting. vote parties was so sports they shakes hand as sportsmanship and they hugged each other when counting was done.even if one was lost he show some good manner and I'm proud of them that could make me inspire when i saw them hugging each other. unfortunately my brother wins as an SK. a landslide win and I'm proud of Him.

The problem might be the releasing of the ballot from the Municipality, I arrived there fresh but I ended up all sweat and stinky. I thought it will be a smooth transaction since it's only Baranggay Election but it's worst than before. We don't have SK election, I didn't know why.

Hi laniekins: Not in our place. I went to my polling precinct at exactly seven in the morning. Ten minutes later, I'm staring at this big black stain in my finger as proof that I have really made my choice. At exactly 3PM, the person next to me picked up a stone and rang the school bell signaling the end of casting votes. By 10PM everybody knew who were their new barangay officials were. By 11Pm, I was fast asleep. How's that for a disaster?

Oh my! That was really a "Filipino time". I heard there were barangay elections that went bad, some even resorted to killing each other. Here in our barangay, one of the peaceful places, we had smooth and peaceful election. You finish voting from 5-10 minutes when you arrive at the precints.

It's good to hear that you had a smooth election there, I guess it's Comelec's fault in the first place. I thought I'm gonna be late, voting takes only few mins., what's worse is that waiting for them to start the voting process.

I think this type of election is not an election but a drama, I never heard this happens any where in the world. I even know in town and villages, election starts on time, it can be late ten or twenty minutes but this much time, it is really a disaster. I am not sure how many registered voters are there. Did this happens every election or only this time...:)

It happens twice, the first one was last few months ago on National Election, though they arrive not late but the line was so long and I've waited for like 4 hrs. to vote. Imagine standing while in queue.
