could you keep chickens then kill them to eat? i couldnt as i wouldnt be able to kill them. it would also upset my kids for them to know that we would be killing the chickens they have fed and looked after for them to eat. dont get me wrong, we are not vegetarians, we love meat but i just couldnt kill a chicken. i would rather buy my meat from the butcher or supermarket, that way its already dead and i just have to cook it.

I would not be able to do this. An ex of mine had chickens when we split up, i saw them and could not imagine myself killing them or taking them to be killed so that i could then eat them. I prefer to really either call to the butchers or the supermarket and get them from there as they are already ready. I once worked in a slaughter house with pigs and for a long time it put me off ham, i love chicken and so there is no way i could ever do anything like this, i haven't got it in me really, and i don't want to go off chicken, i love the meat too much.

I would imagine that if the intent is to raise them for a meal later than it would be easier for the person to do so. But I am like you that I would consider it a pet and then to find it on my plate would make me so sick there would be no way for me.
So my best advice would be to only have it solely for the intent of keeping it as a pet. I would , but if it were not allowed then I would not have them to begin.
