I'd imagine if I went back to Windows 98, it would be a culture shock. Then again, moving up to XP was as well when the time came, so I would imagine that the same would be true. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

When I was child I uses a few times the CPM on a C128 computer. Those days, one was happy playing games with 128KB RAM, 5 1/4 360K disk and NO harddisk at all. But I was too young to be considered a "user". My first real computer experienced happened with DOS 6.0 on a 386DX, 200MB HD and 4MB RAM. And latter thought many versions of Windows, 95, 95, XP. Recently I've got a new notebook with Win7, and I really have to hold myself to not to format it and install XP.

The glory days of computers. I thought that XP was pretty good and about the high water mark. All things considered, 7 is not too bad. It is a bit better than I remember Vista being when I tried it. So for once, Windows went up instead of declining Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

honey my first computer was an amstrad cpc 464... or was that pcp.... I went through what seemed like every type of windows! What amazes me is how that old computer is still the most reliable i have every had, not to mention that in 10 minutes a 10 year old could program a flashing disco lights program that kept you up all night, and the games came on cassette tapes with music on one side!

It is amazing how things changed over the years. I think that many people do prefer the older models than the new versions. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Indeed the days of Windows 98. That does seem like a long time ago. Almost a lifetime in many ways, comparing that operating system with what we have today. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

windows 3.1. desktop - this is how the desktop looked in windows 3.1.
Windows 3.1. In fact, it was more like an application wich run on top of DOS. My computer could either start Windows automatically when it was turned on or it could start in DOS. If it started in DOS I had to type "WIN" at the command prompt to start Windows. I found it difficult to adapt myself to the new, friendly look of windows 95, but now I laugh when I remember how I worked with Windows 3.1.

Yeah Windows 95, it has come a long way for sure to say the least. It was night and day comparing that to what we had it there. I would guess that about fifteen years from now, we'll be talking about the glory days of Windows 7. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

It was Windows 2000 that I had in my computer, when I bought it first in 2004. Now it is Windows XP. While trying to remove a trojan from the computer, the control panel of my computer disappeared. While repairing the computer, my son changed it to Windows XP. I am happy with both operating systems.

Maybe I was born earlier than you aresince the first OS on my computer was Windows 3.11. During those days I remember that it was all folder and the screen can never be nicer than Win98. It was the classic and most simplest desktop I can see on my screen which can never run so complicated during those times and my first computer that time was 486 and was really faster at that time. I don't know if you have heard that already, at least I didn't started at Commodore series.

Yep, you must have been. Or got on computers sooner at any rate. I did use Windows 95 a bit in school for about two weeks, before they upgraded the school computers to 98 but that's as early as I have experiences with. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

First computer which I used had Windows 98 on it. It had 720 MB hard drive and 32MB RAM. That was a compaq laptop. I still remember, I could not play videos on that computer.

Not playing videos, wow, that's really interesting. I doubt I could have lived with that. The hard drive seems rather primitive compared to these days. Talk about coming a long way. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I use Windows 7 and it is satisfying. there are more features than the previous versions and the appearance look cool. Well, my friend, you should change your Windows OS to Windows 7 or maybe change OS to Linux. many schools, offices, and universities use Linux.

The first real OS was Windows 98 SE, for me, although I remember I also tried Windows 3.11, back in the old times of DOS... but that was really a whole different thing. Fortunately for me, I never had to use Windows 95... ^-^
