Needles

I had to get some blood tests done yesterday, and it reminded me of how often I used to have blood tests. One particular time, I had 19 vials of blood taken at one time. I asked the guy if that was a record for him, and he said that he had had to draw 20 vials of blood from someone before me. But that was several years ago at a specialty hospital. My dad has a thing with needles. For tough guy it makes me laugh. He's taken me to the ER before, but had to leave the room when they put an IV in me. So I was thinking, are you afraid of needles? They don't bother me. I'm so used to them. Is it s dislike or a downright fear for you guys? Anyone besides me not really care? I imagine there are some diabetics out there who have to give themselves shots.

I had many blood tests while I was having fertility treatment because part of the treatment is to do ‘tracking’ which entails a daily blood test for up to a week to determine the precise moment of ovulation. I have scars on the inside of my arms and thankfully I am not afraid of needles or I would have been in trouble considering I had to give myself daily hormone injections as well for I.V.F. treatment. I felt like a pin cushion after a while! My sister’s ex prides himself on being a tough guy complete with a shaved head and several big tattoos, yet show him a needle and he’ll squeal like a baby!

hi ambiepam for thirty some years I have pricked my finger three or four times a day to c heck my blood sugar and I am a type two so do not need insulin. I also have to ha ve blood work done every three months for A1C blood test and cholesterol and other things. so no I am not at all phased by being stuck as long as they do not stick me four or five times trying to get a vein. at Quest labs the techs there draw blood without having to stick but once and they use such small needles that it is not at all painful. I wish all nurses and doctors could learn to do that as I hate to be stuck five or six times before they are satisfied.I think when you have to have blood tests done often you grow used to it a nd it really is no big deal. being stitched up for a bleeding artery without benefit of p ain killer injection is something big, it was an emergency as I had picked up my little daughter while in the hospital after hysterectomy and broke open a stitch. the doctor said grit your teeth I have to stop this bleeding now, major artery and he proceeded to stitch right in the perinea which has the most nerves. lets just say it was the most pain I have ever felt and would never feel that much again.Afterward he injected the whole area with pain killer. I had a numb bum for hours after. lol lol

I don't like needles, but I'm not afraid of them... I have to say, I don't watch them give me shots and they can take blood, but don't stick me over and over and DON'T root around for the vein!

Needles have never bothered me, I like watching whether it's me getting a shot (or bloodwork), or some one else. Not that I want MORE of them, mind you... When I was little, I used to watch mosquitoes 'fill up' before I smacked them. Guess I'm weird, huh?

19 vials sounds like an awfully lot! Needles don't bother me, either. I just never have been afraid of them for some reason. I used to have to take allergy shots once a week and I used to give them to myself. I quit taking them because the allergy department closed down where I go to the doctor. That meant that I would have to go to a different doctor for my allergies and go through all those tests again. The tests are very expensive and I couldn't tell whether the shots were helping that much, anyway, so I just decided not to take them any more. I'm planning to get the flu shot tomorrow if nothing happens.

No, I'm okay with needles - good thing because our cat is diabetic and I have to inject him every day. DH is somewhat needle phobic but he has injected the cat a few times. He was fine until he had a hospital appointment for some blood tests and a Doctor used him like a dart board and couldn't find a vein - the nurse found it straight off.

Now a days needle size is becoming smaller and smaller and it is really not giving much pain as in the old times, I used to afraid of injection when I was young at my school age, and it really hurt, I have seen many people who during injection fainted in my village not due to any side effect but due to fear of injection. But now a days, it looks like normal... Good day

I donate blood, so although needles are not my favorite thing, they do not really bother me. With some medications they are necessary and you get the benefit so much faster if it is injected rather than swallowed.

Nothing manly about it. I hate needles and I'm not afraid to say so, my wife's the same. It something that hasn't really bothered me (apart from the needle itself) I really dislike when the doctors try take more blood than what's needed to run tests. I think it's more about blood for me, as I don't like seeing that either and when I have a vaccine it isn't really all that bad.

I believe this may be another reason I try to watch what I eat since diabetes runs in my family. I hate needles and can't watch when they are taking blood, I have to look away. I even would walk out of a room if my sister was giving herself insulin, because I couldn't even watch her.. This may come from when I was a kid, going to the doctor, 9 times out of 10, I would get a shot, because that is how they did it back then.

I dislike needles.. and most people I know only dislike them. Hubby says he's afraid of them.. but he has a tattoo and is planning to eventually get at least 1 more tat.. so that's not a fear, just a dislike.. he apparently doesn't know the difference. My 13 year old really hates needles.. but he's still young. He's had to get stitches a bunch of times and really hated it, it was pathetic to watch him! Though the last time, which was just a year ago, he didn't do so bad. I hoped his was truly a fear so he'd never get piercings or tattoos, but we'll see. I'll bet he will get at least 1 tat someday. I hate blood draws because I've had a few where they couldn't find the vein and they just kept poking around in there to find it.. that is torture. I also hate IV's because it drives me crazy that it's just left there. If you gotta poke me, fine, but make it quick, don't leave the dang thing sitting there in my arm for days and days! The only times I've needed IV's were during childbirth.. and obviously during the labor the IV is the least of my problems.. but after the child is born that's usually my first question "When can you take the IV out?" usually not until discharge. What a pain! For me it's like restless leg syndrome.. I just need it out NOW!

They do not bother me much except when taking blood as they find it hard to take blood from me. I do not know why it is a problem. However I have a son and a daughter who gave us hell when they had to have injections. They would try to run from the office or clinic and we would have to hold them down. Really horribly embarrassing.
