I am getting more and more discourage at getting a Macbook. This is because there are so many laptops that are almost 1/3 the price of the Macbook, but with a much higher spec than the Macbook. This is mainly due to the fact that the Macbook series take quite a long time to refresh their lineup, while other laptop have been updating frequently.
What do you think?

Yep! If you have the power to get a Macbook. Just get it without any hesitations. And believe me, the Out of the Box Experience are the best than the rest, and no other can beat. You don't have problem installing Anti-Virus but though they have Norton Mac versions.
After having your MacBook just open-up the box and turn it on. The battery is already charged and ready to go. Even you don't yet purchased any applications, it is already packed-up a lot of productivity applications and softwares. Like the iLife (iMove, GarageBand, iPhotos, iWeb and iDVD) and programming languages (Like C (and compilers), Objective C, Java, Web Apps, XCode, Dashcode, Apple Scripts and Automators).
Why Macbook long time to refresh? Because the technologies are 3 to 4 years steps ahead so you have long time to purchase to another new line or model of Macbook. Using MacBook for 3 to 4 years still values. If the Macbook is well maintained like a car, it will still work effectively and efficiently both hardware and software.

In my opinion a Macbook is just a luxury. You're right there are so many laptops out there in the market that performs better than a mac. I think one of the greatest disadvantage of the mac is that you can't install just anything on it since it's requirement is different from a Windows. But I must admit that Macbooks look good compared to most of the laptops out there.

Well, I must add that another feature that makes a Macbook so good is its software. iLife and iWork are a great joy to use!

I think you should go for Dell laptops as they give very good performance compared to macbook and at a very less price than mac.If u want luxury and headturning you should go for Macbook but if you want high performance you should go for Dell,HP,Etc.

Yes, you are right: a MacBook is very expensive for ordinary people. But in my opinion it has a good price-quality relationship, you will get a lot things back for your money. A whole new experience, its works great (of course, the first days you have to get used to the new things), everything is logical, and no problems with viruses. Moreover, a MacBook can last normally for at least 4 - 5, and if you are taking good care of it even longer. So, instead of buying in 5 years 3 laptops, you can also have one MacBook for the same money or even less.
