For the past 30 years I have witnessed and reported on this type of "politicking" in our schools and the dangers to our children. I have taught in NJ, where this takes place. It is deplorable. I have also taught in CA where the teachers' union is the second largest in the state and I have taught in DC.
I am not saying that every teacher is "bad" but that the system is corrupt and the union is engaged in corrupt politicking, in bed with our "government".
I again urge you to be wary where your children are concerned.

And people wonder why so many parents are either sending their kids to private schools or are homeschooling.
I have lost complete faith in our public school system and crap like this is part of the reason.
I virtual school my kids. My neighbor is a teacher so I hear all kinds of things from her about what goes on in the school system. Plus I hear things from friends that send their kids to public school.
