Today morning as I was on my way to office, an elderly lady walking just a bit away from me, suddenly fell down flat on the road. Before I or anybody else could reach her for help, she quickly stood up and stared walking, without looking here and there. Obviously she was embarrassed. A sudden thought came into my mind, why should one feel embarrassed??. I am sure everybody has gone through this situation once in a life....Me too .and when I think about it I laugh......so now till me honestly ,..did you or did you not go from this kind of sudden fall.

ha ha ha, you mean you fell just now after writing to me this comment......poor Bala,
by the way isn't it funny that no body wants to fall down as it is embarrassing and hurts, but everyone wants to fall in love again and again, .......though falling in love also hurts most of the time............Thanks for your reply Bala. Always nice to see you.

Yes, I did...when I was in high school. I fell down in the middle of the road running to catch a bus. I had a few books in my hand and a school bag...and there I was...fallen on the road...books around me...bag somewhere..skirt half way up my thigh! It was embarrassing...and more so because my cousin was around (who told the whole family...I would have preferred not to mention to anyone) and also my friends were with me. Of course, they helped me up and got my things but it was also embarrassing that they saw me fall :P

Oh yes, that had happened to me too recently. I was walking along the pavement os a street in the downtown core. All of a suddenly, I fell down. It was a shock. I just could not understand why I had fallen. Any way, one person who was also walking along the pavement beside me immediately helped me to rise up. I was so thankful to him. When I asked why I feel down, he said there were uneven places along the pavement. Yes, that must be it.

Yes greenline, the most dangerous place is uneven level on roads and other places, because these uneven levels are not much noticeable and they take us by surprise and shock. I also sometimes wonder, what happened, why am I suddenly licking the ground...Thanks for your reply.

Dear friend,
Yes few times I had just slipped on the road, few times I had just scrabbled but did not fall. I had seen people falling on the road. People also had helped few of them. As our road especially during rainy season is too bad even to walk, we may not know were there is any hole or not. Not only in rainy season also during summer seasons too one should be very careful while walking here.

hello shamrack, yes falling on the road is common for people, Some times there are good people who come to help.......and some times you are alone and have to struggle alone to get back to shape..When you are young falling is not so dangerous , but for old people such sudden falling can be very risky. Yes all that we can do is to remember to walk carefully, but do you think it is easy to remember to walk carefully, when you have so many problems dancing in our mind.

Hi aps dear,
How are you? Long time there is no interaction with you. Happy to see you again here.
Coming to your topic, I think it is the common feeling among human being. I can’t recollect any falling but surely I know I feel embarrassment by thinking that anybody watches my falling. I will walk quickly as the lady did, just for making sure my self that nothing happened. However If I see anybody falling in front of me I feel sorry for them.

Hello sreekala, how are you. Thanks for remembering me, Now a days I come on mylot only when I feel like.....most of the time I feel lazy to log in....
Yes falling down is common thing, yet we feel so embarrassed.......because deep inside we know... that, though we fell pity on the person who falls and also we help him, but somewhere inside we cannot stop laughing.....we human being are very wicket inside....and when we fall , we know though people are not showing, but they will laugh behind our backs....

I think all of us have fallen either in home, or in street or at works during ones lifetime, it is natural i think, may be there is water, oil on the floor or tiles or street, one may fall down due to health issue too, i am not surprised at all..
Thank you so much for this discussion.
Professor. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.
God bless you. Welcome always.

Falling down due to some reason like health problem or oil or soap on tiles or banana skin on the road has a logic behind it. But when you are flat on the ground without knowing what happened, then it really surprises me........ Anyway in such case all that you can do is to pull up yourself and walk away........ Thanks for your reply.

Wow! Do you think that old lady fell because she was sick or she only prevented and fell? I wonder why could she be embarrassed?
It happened to me once to suddenly fall, but I was at the office. I had donated blood that morning. I felt I was dizzy and the next moment I found myself lying on the floor, with my face full of blood (I hit a huge safe while I was falling). All my colleagues was scared and they all tried to help me. I can tell you I was embarrassed.

oh......that was very bad.......immediately after you had denoted blood , you fell, and lost blood again......usually after donating blood, we feel a bit weak, and that is why you were dizzy. In your case ,there was no reason to feel embarrassed, you had good reason for having this unfortunate fall. Donating blood is a very respectful deed and not everyone is able to do it.
This lady who fell in front of me did not seem to be sick, she just slipped because if she was sick she would not get up with such speed and walk away.
Thanks for your reply.

Poor lady! I completely feel for her, I'm glad to hear that she got up, you had me alittle scared!
I've just gotta say, I was zooming along on my scooter the other day when my front wheel slipped of the side of the curb! It felt as though I could literally see myself flying through the air! I was sooooo scared! Just a sudden screech, swishing of air, and the thud of my shoulder catching up with my arms.... easy to say I was embarrassed, could feel the warmth of redness rushing to my face, even more so 'cos I had to move myself out of the way of an incoming bus.... afterward though, it was aallll giggles! Just like you said! =D
For the most part, I believe it's an irrational feeling that arises when you worry that your surrounding group of people (as our brains are evolutionarily wired as though we are still living in a pack rather than as a member of a herd) watching your social status drop - in a pack, people will not wish to be close to you if you are dangerous and attract attention from predators, right?
Lucky that the bus wasn't hungry... jeez! ;-)
It's alittle outdated, but I don't think evolution has caught up to the rapid growth in population yet. Does that clear up the "why should one feel embarrassed??" Question alittle more....?

wow, you really had a dangerous fall, thank God you are OK. Yes I agree with you, when we fall down, our mind fills up with irrational feelings, which may not be true, but we just feel that whatever we are thinking is happening.Yes today thinking of people is changing...people are becoming more optimist and take thingslightly Thanks for your reply.
