Electrical hand dryer takes up electricity to dry your hands. You can do the same thing with paper towel. Most paper towel available in the public toilet are from recycled material. Which is more eco friendly?

I have NO idea, but I would really like to know the answer to this!! I am always wondering about this. Because, they installed these new hand-dryers at the school I used to go to, and I wondered if it really IS more efficient and less wasteful. I mean, I can't imagine how much electricity those things take and whether the switch from the original paper towel was really worth it.

I think it is more eco friendly when we use electricity other than using paper. Using paper could increase the number of waste materials and it takes time to be degraded. While using electricity, there is no waste after wards.

True. Most paper towels don't get recycled. Thank you for sharing.

I think they both have pros and cons on what is better for the environment. When you go to a public restrooom and throw the paper towels in the garbage along with all the dirty diapers and other things I highly doubt the paper towels are then sorted out and recycled. I prefer to use paper towels to wash my hands with because I can use them to turn the faucet off and open the door without getting my hands covered in germs after washing them. Hand dryers use electricity but cut down on the trees used to make paper towels. I really sont know which is better I'm sure they have done studies on it and figured out whats better.

A paper towel can be recycled. this makes it a friend to the earth. Electricity is something we use and can not get back. We have to make wise choices for the environment.

It also takes a lot of energy to recycle paper. In most cases, the paper towel will end up in the landfill. That is why I am undecided.
