Do you pray for favors...?

All religions advocate prayer and we all pray irrespective of the religion we belong to.In my observation I found that most of those who pray are either in distress or in need. Those who are comfortable also pray and I feel they offer prayers to thank Him for the favors bestowed on them or to come close to Him and be blessed. But those who are in distress generally pray God to help them come over their distress... may be health or pecuniary or any other problems they face. The reason is their faith and belief that God would come to their rescue. As for me I pray God to give me peace of mind and health. How about you?Do you pray for favors..?

Yes, I pray for favors..sometimes for myself and sometimes for others who ask me to do so. I pray because I believe that prayers said with a righteous heart and for a good cause and intentions, will surely be heard and answered by God. So keep praying for yourself and for others too..God is listening :)

Prayers for the well being of self and others is really ideal and noble. They are easily answered by God. The secret is that when you pray for the well being of all.. you are also included.Unless you are alright how can you pray for others .If you are not alright others have to pray for you.Is it not?So praying for one self and others is noble..

I agree with you, chayapathys. If one is not alright, one needs to pray first to God for oneself before others do. We need to prayer for one and all as everyone needs God's blessings and mercy.

Prayer is a state which gives peace to the mind. I pray regularly but i am against asking favors to god by praying. Prayer is a sort of meditation and doing it regularly keeps your mind and soul refreshed. In my opinion praying for favors mean begging for alms and the person is no less than a beggar. I do not wish to be a beggar. Happy mylotting.

You are correct and prayer is nothing but focussing the mind and in that process why should seek favors from outer source. The real pryer is a mental exercise to come closer to God.God knows everything. When should we ask?If we desrve He will give thout asking. When we seek favors prayer becomes begging and prayeer is not begging...

i've prayed for everything. i've prayed for my own piece of mind, safety, health, guidence and protection. and it's not just for me, but for friends and family as well. i've even prayed for people who have passed or are about to. i don't think praying is harmful in anyway and i try not to be too selfish in my requests. right now i'm praying or the health and fincacial stabability of my own family.

What you are doing is very correct. You can pray for something good for you , and for your family and to the society at large. When you confine to you yourself it becomes selfish but when you include others it is really noble. You continue to pray for others.Do you know the secret. When you pray for the welfare of the society you are also included in that. Many do not know this...

Hi, I really like this discussion I am a catholic myself and consider myself a strong believer in God. I have a bible study group that I attend to every week. I dont just listen to the word of God but try my best to actually follow them I just had a retreat and the topic was PUSH (Pray until something happen) and it really touches my heart. Prayer is not always about asking for God to do something for us but it is building a close relationship with God so we can be closer to God each day. We will get stronger when we pray everyday even when God seems does not answer all our prayer. I just learn this, when we pray to God in distress, He will either change the circumstances or give us enough strenght to face it. We have to be thankful in every moment in our life even though we are in distress. So dont thank God just when we are happy and have no problem at all and thats what God really want us to do.. I really pray that there are more people who would actually believe in God... and always pray to Him because He is always waiting for us to talk to Him in prayer.. Prayer is a privilege so we should always pray until we can really pray... here is a little article that I can share with you about prayer Prayer – Talking to God Prayer is a privilege. Imagine meeting your best friend for coffee at your favorite cafe. Your friend knows everything about you. You can count on your friend being exactly where he says he will be. Anytime you need him, you can call and he won’t be upset with you. He is willing to listen and responds with love and concern. That is just like prayer. The only difference is that your best friend is God. God is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He knows everything you ever did and He still loves you! He knows your future too. He has the best plans for your life. He cares for you so much that He gave His Son so that you could be with Him forever. “For God so loved the world, the He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). You can talk to Him about anything that concerns you. Tell Him your desires and passions. Share your concerns for your loved ones. Talk out your fears with Him. Communicate to God what is inside you without fear. Prayer – What do I say? Prayer may be accomplished in many ways. The best way is to be natural, just as if you were in the room with Him. He is very anxious to hear every word you say. You can say whatever is on your heart. He’ll even listen to your anger and sadness. In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus taught the disciples a pattern for prayer. “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

So you pray to come closer to God and you have experienced strength by prayers. It is really very noble of you.God knows everything. Why should we pray to tell our troubles and seek His help.He knows as to how and when to help if you are close to Him.May God bless you..

When I get up early morning, I enjoy seeing the way my husband and my children sleeping happily. I so say thanks to God that we all are together. After that early morning rush. After every body is out I am alone at home. First I pray to ask him to bring everybody safe to me again. Then i do my useual prayers. Most of the time begging to solve my problems. then useal work: cooking, cleaning, washing etc. But I have a habit of speaking to God the whole day long. I never forget to say thanks to god.

You are an ideal mother and house wife. What else you want except the well being of your husband and children. You say you pray to solve your usual problem. As I see you should have no problem.OK.Constant prayer brings you nearer the God and His care you are always happy. While doing domestic duties also you should consider them as duties entrusted to you by God only and not by human beings.Whatever you.. do you do it in the name of God only and that is the ideal life...

HELLO! I pray to God because of so many reasons not just for asking for favors. Of course I do that as well because I believe that He's only the one whom I could ask for anything and everything. I pray everyday, every night and in between for the whole day because I was used to doing that. God really is my friend, confidante, saviour, everything! I knew that whatever happened. He's just there for me and I love the feeling it gave me everytime Im saying something to Him. I knew that He listens and im glad He's always will. Have a nice day ahead!

I was taught from a very early age never to pray to god for materialistic things. So I never EVER have! I used to pray when I was young all the time but anymore I really dont know what to believe. When I pray I dont pray thinking of jesus I pray to god whomever it might be. I pray that god keep my family safe in our travels or keep us safe in our homes and daily life. Once in awhile I will pray for someone else if I hear they are going through something really hard.

I don't like to pray for favors. i like to pray for help and guidance instead. Asking God to give you a favor just doesn't seem like an appropriate thing to do.

Yes you are correct. Why ask fvors in prayers. We seek God's guidance and help in our deeds. When we seek favors in prayers it becomes begging and prayers are not beggings.God knows what you need and when we pray we come closer to God and He will definitely help without our asking. That is the greatness of God...

Yes, I agree with you that in every religion, people always pray to God, because in every religion supreme power is only God and only He can give, what that person want, this is the concept that we pray for favor. Now there are two cases when we need favor then we pray to God and in other moments of our life we dont pray. This is also true, we always remember God when we need him and this concept prevails every where and in every religion. This may be due to the human nature, you may have seen that when a baby is hungry, he cannot speak only weep, when he is hungry he ll weep and mother ll give him milk or any other food, same is the God we should pray to him, whether we are in good or bad condition, we should always seek His favor God Bless you All
