what (who?) do you wake up for?

i saw this coffee ad on tv and it asked the same question. it was a pretty good ad, showing that people wake up to serve; teachers to educate children, a traffic enforcer to help people get to work on time, and a mother doing her duties to her family.
i couldn't help asking myself the same question. what do i wake up for? i haven't really thought of it before, which explains my failure to give myself an answer. perhaps you could help me. what do you wake up for?

think of something that can make us feel that life is not just ours alone.....
there are people around us...
we are social creatures so share with the people beside you

hahaXD that's a good one. i'm thinking. i'll think hard really.
maybe that something differs on a daily basis for me. today, i woke up earlier than usual because it's my best friend's birthday and we had to cook something for him. i was really looking forward to it last night. and it sure was easier to wake up.:)

I suppose I wake up for my son right now. I am still caring for him after his accident. There are times I would like to just be done with life, but I know no one would take care of him. I wake up for him!

you have a very lucky son. it's difficult and physically exhausting to take care of a sick or an incapacitated loved one, but we don't love them for nothing.
my brother has psoriasis. he can move and do things by himself, yeah, but the sight of the disease all over his skin is frustrating. we have to constantly apply this ointment to control it, and that ointment is anything but cheap. *sigh*
i hope your son gets better~ and i wish you and your family are well and in good health.:)

Everyone should have his goal.
My goal may be changed from time to time.
As what I can remember, my late grandfather woke up early around 6.00a.m in everyday morning.
His goal was to start doing business at his shop. He wanted to earn as much as he can to support the whole family. Because of his goal, our financial was getting better and better.Until now, I am still appreciate of what he contributed to the family.
For me, I want to be the same as my grandfather. Once I wake up, I shall start thinking about earning and saving money. This is my goal.

yeah every one should have that goal. it's hard to wake up and find nothing to accomplish. i do have a goal, but maybe i wanted a different answer to the question. something that's specific, personal and simple. like waking up to see somebody's face, feeding your dog, watering your plants, anything that you might look forward to.
but i guess your answer's 'it' for you. good luck on your goal~^_^

hmmm...it made me wonder as well. I think I wake for my dreams. Often times my world is clouded by the wrong decisions I've made and I would tell myself, I don't wanna wake up anymore. But when I think of my dreams, something's telling me, I must win it! And it gives me a reason to wake up each day. ^_^

What a wonderful dicussion you have started, greygoo!! It made me think about my own life. I don't really have a reason to wake up in the morning. I have no children, my husband wakes up early and goes to work while I am still sleeping and then returns when I am already sleeping. We moved to another country half a year ago and I don't have any friends, so I am alone the whole day. I don't know what I am waking up for in the morning, maybe to see the sun.

I'm a new mom and although I only get 4hours of sleep at night, I wake up every morning for my daughter and husband. I love watching my daughter yawn and stretch before opening her eyes in the morning. I also love kissing my hubby's cheek so he'd wake up. They're the once I wake up for each morning. They remind me how good life is.

I wake up at 7:00 every morning to start the coffee and to give my husband his medication. I also have to let the dogs and the cat out and, later on, give my little dog her medication. I wake up in the morning to be my husband's partner in our business and in our lives, to be my grandchildren's "Nan" and to be my children's mother.

I have to wake up every 5.30 in the morning because it is a time my fiance will call me everyday because we are far away from each other at the moment So I guess I wake in the morning for that really I usually go back to sleep after saying good night to him then wake up again two hours later and start working online. Nothing else than that.

hi!
this is a pretty good question.. who do i wake up for, you ask??.. well, to tell you honestly, even though i have a stable job at the bank, i don't wake up for that, i don't wake up so i can go to work and count moneys that aren't mine. i'm 25 years old.. and the reason why i wake up each day since last year is my boyfriend. we've been a couple for a year now and we have lots of plans ahead of us, and yes we talked about everything including marriage and having a family of our own.:) this is the reason why i wake up everyday, knowing that every morning is just a reminder that we're getting close to what we planned. i believe that if we take our plans one day at a time, that it'll work. :) thanks for having a very nice topic.

I work with children who have autism and that is who I wake up for. When the alarm goes off and I want to roll over and take a sick day I just remember, a day off for me is an opportunity missed for them. It is sometimes hard to take time off and not feel guilty, so I try to wake up every morning with a positive outlook and a smile on my face. It's not always soeasy to do though :)

wow good for you~! waking up isn't hard for you then.^_^ not that it's hard for me, maybe just a little...well, i don't know. there must be gazillions of reasons to wake up for. i do wake up for my family. but i think i'll find something more special and specific to myself if i just keep looking.

I wake up for myself because I have to. I have to go to work in order to earn a living so that I can buy the things I want. But there are days where I just want to lie in bed all day because I don't feel well. Like today, I wasn't really feeling well because of my asthma and it was with some effort that I got up.

you better just stay in bed when you're sick. working will probably make things worse for you.
work yeah. material needs do enslave us somehow. i wake up and go to school because i need to graduate, which eventually will give me employment opportunities. maybe we need some other motivation? something beyond the material realm?

Well, i am still a student pursuing a diploma and has most of her classes start at 8 am in the morning. So i guess i would be waking up to go to school? Does that fit in? But then again, that doesn't seem like i'm waking up to serve aren't i? Oh my, maybe i'm lost just like you are. haha. I could say i am my grandmother's grandchild who wakes up to make food and serve her drink in her room every morning? That works right? I guess it could just be something that you do everyday that would contribute as helping someone even in the smallest way. :)

hahaXD somebody else gave the same answer. it's the same story for me too, for most of the year. waking up for school~ luckily i'm on vacation now.:D
hmm... it doesn't have to be about serving others. the question is like, what motivates you to get up every morning? or something like that. you know, it's always difficult to get up, especially for lazy people like me. hahaXD

I wake up for the day. I don't wake for a particular person or thing. I wake for myself and what the day may bring.

I think for me, I wake up everyday for my family especially my grandmother. I make sure to wake up everyday and work. Because I want to give my family a better life and future. I wake up everyday too for my self. I wanted to achieve my goal in life. I want to wakeup everyday for my pets too. I want to play with them with my spare time everyday. That is the reason I want to wake up every morning of my life.
