Do you think one day our technology will surpass our ability to control it and robots will gain consciousness and ultimately destroy humanity?
How do you think they will discover self awareness? Better processors? Bio-mechanics? An unexplainable event like a lightning bolt that hits a state of the art robot and by coincidence triggers some kind of personality? "Space rays"?
Do you imagine a 2021: A Space Odyssey type situation, where a the robots we depend on (in the future) are inexplicably blessed with a sense of self preservation? Or do you imagine a Terminator/ Matrix scenario where humanity simply fails to keep up with technology?
Do you think they will be alien in nature?
Do you believe they will sustain themselves on ridiculous fuel sources like the pills of the elderly or alcoholic beverages?
Do you have any other thoughts or comments on the topic?

That is really an interesting question. I think that i can rephrase it as is mankind capable of creating a new form of life?
Because in order to be able to willingly destroy mankind they will have to be sentient, capable of autonomous decision and basically able to take decision regardless of their programming.
I think that even if it were possible to create something like that, it would be absolutely wrong to give machines that basically do repetitive and boring stuff a consciousness to understand their condition.
Machines are good to us because we can use them, we don't have to ask their opinion and we don't have to convince them to do things our way. They just need the proper progamming and they will do what we tell them.
Any kind of machine that is or will be helpful to mankind is based on this concept. Creating a self-sentient machine just makes no sense. Maybe someday (even if i doubt we will ever be able to do so) we will have the capacity to create an artificial intelligence, but anyway i doubt it will ever be put in a position capable of doing any harm to us.

Maybe we are all robots.
I was going to say, in response to the beginning of your questions, that technology pretty much has surpassed our ability to control it: cell phones, internet, t.v. and in a sense can be already leading to our destruction! Possible.

Yes.... It Can Be The Truth ... Theres A Lot More Chances for Our mankind To be In the Situation You Are Describing ...
As The Technology Is Certainly Increasing...
It Is Highly Possible That on One day Or Another We Are Gonna Feel The Crisis...
Thanks for the Post
Thanks & regards
