Do you text faster with a regular numeric pad or a QWERTY keyboard?

I know this sounds crazy, but sometimes I have two cell phones, and sometimes I prefer texting on the old one that does not have the QWERTY keyboard. I guess I just became so accustomed to the old phones, that it's hard to get used to the QWERTY method even though I've had it for years. Another reason why I find this method easier, is because on phones with keyboard capabilities, it seems like the keys are always so small and hard to get to...(Unless it's a touch screen phone). Even Blackberrys have such small keys! My fingers are chunky so I don't know how that would work for me! I always have trouble hitting certain keys. Some of my friends feel the same way. My friend had the NV touch and it was a nice phone, but she traded it in for a Razar cause she liked the keypad better. I know it sounds insane but I see where she's coming from...Sometimes the old style is a lot easier! Which one is easier for you to text on? QWERTY or the old phone pads?

Wow two cell phones cool. Well I have a blackberry phone which is a full keyboard. I tried texting on the regular one and it made me text so slow. I so prefer the full keyboard for texting. Good descussion.

@vonmac: you are planning to buy a phone using earnings from mylot. Big wish, I must say. You will need around 300$ to buy a nice sophisticated smart phone with all the latest technologies.

surely in a qwerty is much more comfortable than a numeric pad..in amny cases i sued to compare the qwarty on yoour phone to that i have on pc so it is quit eok..surely as regards only touch phone this issue is real especially if you type so much as message, mails ,editing documents and so on..i found qwerty really comfortable for this purposes...

yes, the querty keyboard is helpful while writing long mails or long message lot convinient. It is not easy though, you will most likely make mistakes in typing as the keys are too small you will end up spending more time in editing than in typing.

Dear Lilblondiemjd, I am 50 years old man and for a person like me these mobile phones and texting on them has not been very easy! It is not easy to teach tricks to Old Horse, No? But some how I find it better way of communication with SMS message for two reasons. First we save our lot of time which otherwise we normally tend to spend for no reason with introductory talk, secondly by sending SMS I keep the record of information sent which becomes handy when I need that as my official record. I feel qwerty type of mobile is better for me as I can text with this phone at higher speeds than the normal ones. While agreeing with your points regarding the small Keys,I would like to add another thing about messaging which disturbs me - is the screen size. At this age I prefer to have a big sized screen , so while searching for a model with big screen ,I was fortunate enough to get a model with 2.8 " screen plus QWERTY key pad. This I gt in G five 9000 model which is just the same like blackberry with bit bigger sized keys. With this phone I think my messaging ability has gone up and I am now more confident and more efficient than before! Yes I keep some of my own made templates ready as I know what I require frequently, and as I mentioned I mostly use SMS services for my official purpose. These templates save lot of my time and energy too! Thanks for initiating such light but interesting topics of discussion!

I think its a matter of getting used to. Old habits aren't easy to break. I have a phone with numeric keypad and I've been using it for 2 years. And all of my former phones also have numeric keypads. Lately I've tried using Nokia E72. It has a QWERTY keyboard and at first I was kind of slow but when I got used to it, it was easy to use. So I guess its a matter of practice and getting used to. :-)

of course. Anything is easy when you keep on doing it months and years. Just a matter of tmie before you are comfortable with it. I was not used to using touch screen earlier, now I find it really comfortable and easy where as my friends, who do not use touch screen but use the blackberry stype cell phones, find touch screen very inconvinient. There are few disadvantages but in the end which phone does not have some disadvantage, not all phones are perfect

Hi there ! I personally prefer the non-QWERTY one's with the T9 mode. It really helps me type better though at times it could be difficult to get the words you need. I guess, its the small size of the keys that makes texting harder in the QWERTY phones. Also, the non-QWERTY ones are smaller and easier to hold in one hand and text at the same time. Cheers :)

I am with you.I prefer the classic version and also the T9 mode. You can customize your T9 by adding your words to it, so the next time you type in your words it will automatically create it for you. So, it is not at all difficult to use T9 mode. The QUERTY ones have really small size keys which are not comfortable to type fast where as the alpha nuemric keys are larger in size and easy/faster to type in the right words

I have the HTC Hero and it is a touch screen. I think it's so much easier to text on. The keys on the screen are bigger then any old phone and even bigger than the iphone. I can also turn my phone sideways like most touch screens and the keys on the screen get bigger. I like my phone cuz it vibrates a little when i touch each letter. I prefer touch screens cuz i too have kinda chunky fingers and the phones with keyboards are always so small and i end up sending texts that people think im drunk texting! lol

I only have a regular cell phone key pad. My cell phone is a prepaid LG Tracfone. I dont know if Tracfone sells cell phones with full keypads but that would be awesome if they did. I've never used a keypad that is a full one like a keyboard so I dont know if I could type faster on that or not honestly but I would imagine it would be a little faster at least since with the keypad I have if I want a c I have 2 push the 1 button 3 times. It takes along time to type that way but the more often you do it the faster you get at it.

I don't text anymore, but when I did, I used the EN v Touch as well. I liked the keyboard as I could type pretty fast. Now, I have a touchscreen phone, and I really like it as it has a special keyboard for tor texting, called swipe. I can really text fast with it, when I do text, but since I don't when I post in here on it, I use it that way. I guess you could call that texting even though I am not typing back to anyone on my phone.I have a really nice phone, and I do enjoy it a lot. Take care, and have a good day.

I have been using cell phone from the age of 15. Till now I had the normal keypad phone. Only few months back I have bought this Touch screen phone which has facility of both normal keypad or Keyboard. After using the normal keypad for so many years I find it more comfortable than to use QUERTYA one. Also, I switch on the dictionary mode keep saving my words and use them whenever needed. With the dictinary mode on, texting becomes a lot faster for me!! So, finally I prefer the old classic alpha numeric keypad!

I am not a fast texter to begin with. i am very slow and get frustrated with the numeric keyboard to text with. The QWERTY keyboard is much faster and easier for my use.

i think i prefer the old keypad because it is more convenient than the qwerty one. I text a lot and i need to text fast. so with qwerty, it takes a lot of time because the keys are so small and my fingers are bigger.

me too i do have two phones. But two of them have the old keypads. I think it is more convenient to type with the old keypads other than the qwerty one. Because it is too small and my fingers are bigger. I text a lot so i need to type fast and having the old keypad is the most convenient.
