In what has to go down as the most bizarre goal of the season and worst refereeing moment, Nani scored the goal that settled the game for Man U who ended up winning 2-0 against a battling Tottenham. Tottenham were good value for money, but gave up a soft goal in the first half and then the refereeing howler by Mark Clattenburg ended any hopes of coming back. Did you see the refereeing howler? What is your take on that? Cheers! Ram

I'm not a football expert but I think it's a legitimate goal. Players should always play to the whistle. It's like in other sports, unless the referees blew his whistle to signal a stoppage in play, then the players should play. Even if I don't like the manner in which the goal was scored, it should be accepted as legitimate.

Yes, but usually when something is as blatant as a player putting the hand on the ball nonchalantly, players tend to stop. Cheers! Ram

I don't think it was a howler by the referee. I have watched the incident and at no time did I saw the referee signal a free kick. Gomes made a mistake and Nani gleefully accepted it. The referee did no wrong in awarding a goal.

I do not have a problem with referee awarding the goal. The question is why was no free kick signaled when Nani put his hand on the ball. It was deliberate, as per the law he should have got a yellow card for that!! I think it was a horrendous refereeing work from Mark Clattenburg. Cheers! Ram

It was certainly a very funny goal. You can either blame the referee who didn't spot the handball, or blame Gomes who thought it was a free kick when the referee didn't blow his whistle. Well, at least Nani looked at the referee for confirmation first before scoring.

I agree that Gomez had no need to put the ball down, but the referee had at least three occasions to blow his whistle and avoid this bizarre drama!! Cheers! Ram

I did see the match and it was a strange goal. Nani even seemed to almost stop. If the referee had not blown his whistle then it is really the goalkeepers fault but the linesman did seem to over rule the goal.

Yes, actually he came back to the ball and asked the referee whether I can play it. The referee said play on and he scored it :) Cheers! Ram
