One of my favorite countries is Indonesia. Being an European of course I find exotic every tropical countries. But the main reason why Indonesia mesmerized me a lot was it's incredibly rich and interesting culture. I loved the Balinese hindu culture with the several celebrations, the cultural heritages in Yogyakarta, the buddhist center Borobudur (on the photo), and I am totally crazy for the beautiful wayang puppets. Have you ever been to Indonesia? What are your experiences there?

i never been in indonesia as well...so i never experienced almost nothing about this country and its culture as well...in reality i did not consider in the past too much as regards the list of countries to visit bu it cna be good too..so i think ebfore you hadn't a direct expeeince in a country or culture you can't judge it!!

I totally agree...You have to experience a country before judge it. The best is to spend some time there. Living there, or working there.

I live in Europe and I am very keen on traveling to different countries. I was 20 years old when I traveled to Indonesia. It has many different islands and I would like to return there for another trip one day. I visited the island of Sumatra. There I liked seeing the interesting looking homes with the very steep roofs. I enjoyed shopping at a handy craft shop. There I bought a pair of costume dolls and a model of an Indonesian palace. I traveled on a bus that stopped off at the Equator which was an amazing experience. Then I stayed on the shore of the Lake Toba. It was amazing to walk from a village to where the wild orangutans are. I know that Bali is a very popular place and Lombok is interesting too. Java would be well worth visiting I am sure. I love to visit tropical countries and I found prices in Sumatra low. Interestingly they have the Islamic religion in Sumatra and I know they have the Hindu faith in Bali.

I have never been to Sumatra, but I hope next time I can visit it. I also found it very interesting that Bali has a special version of the Hindu religion and people follow it. They have a lot of ceremonies and traditions that brings a special athmosphere to the island.

Hi!! I'm Indonesian and I'm glad to read your posting. Yep, Indonesia is a very beautiful country, and we got tons of beautiful places like Bali. Wayang puppet is very philosophical, that would be great if you study about them. Though now we're still sad of some disasters occurred in our country, that's fine anyway. Life must go on. We will welcome happily if you visit our country. We will protect any tourist and serve them the best. Happy Sunday!

I was there for my honeymoon. The climate was quite cooler than my hometown (Singapore) but still it was warm for my husband. He is perspiring after a five minutes walk. However, overall, I love that place very much, love the sunset at Kuta. It's unfortunate that that area is geographically not the best with the three plates all clashing and at any time of the year, there will be some natural disaster...
