do you believe in that? I think it is quite true.. because during meals not only do you eat but you also bond with each other and talk about anything else..it keeps you closer. That is why as much as possible I see to it that my family and i eat together. How about you do you always eat together with your family, and do you believe in this "saying"?

I believe that families that eat together do stay together. they seem to be more in tune with each other when they are closer. When you are so much a part of each other's lives, you can share more together.

Well, i have no dubt that the lunch hour for the family is a moment of concentration.
Unfortunately this not happens in my family cause that relationships with family is no good (hope only for now!!).
May discuss various issues. Maybe help each other in personal problems.
However, if you ask me,I agree on this debate.

The joint family structure,in many places,is gradually breaking into smaller nuclear units of smaller size.In small sized families, the family bond is relatively stronger and more intense.Eating together in a family certainly brings the members closer to each other and helps improve greater unity and harmony in the family set-up.However,in modern work life with hectic and busy schedules,it becomes difficult to eat together,on regular basis, though the family bond and relation are still maintained. Thanks.

yes i do believe that bonding at mealtimes is very important. it has now become a luxury since many parents are often too busy with work and can no longer find the time to come home for meals. both parents and children are missing out on the opportunity to get to know what's happening in their individual lives. it's really sad that such a simple family ritual is dying out and the consequences are costly . . .

Yes..it's so sad that some kids these days don't get to eat with their parents because they are so busy.... I remember Mara Clara...Clara is quite pitiful because her parents always choose their job instead of spending time with her.

Three years ago i'm living with my parents, so i always eat with my family. It's really happy. Now i'm a student and live far away from my family (About 100 miles), that is a reason that i can not make a meal with my family imediately. It makes me sometimes fell sadly. I can only eat with my family only at the end weeken of a month. So sad.

How true stanley,
Once a family starts to fall apart, it is the eating schedule that suffers. Once, it was 3 times a day, then, two times a day, later it became dinner. Once a week, one a month, and once a year. It goes on and on until it shall come to pass that the entire family could no longer be together in a meal.
That's just the way it goes, no matter how we try.

But still, people should try and not give up on this 'tradition' ...things will work out gradually through eating together members of the family can have a heart to heart talk, and mend the problems

I strongly believe in this. Meals should be a daily ritual, with the family, not something you grab in the subway on the way home. I strongly believe that food is extremely important to make us happy, but not just food for the sake of eating. Cooking at home is important, eating together makes the cook feel special and appreciated. I've just read today that teenage girls who eat meals cooked at home are 90% less likely to develop bulimia than those who eat fast food. I think eating together might help prevent more such illnesses, possibly even depression.

Yeah I do believe in this saying, for I eat together with my family and until now we keep our bonding through all the years. Because like you just said Stanley, We spend more time chit chatting while eating right?, we have long periods sitting on the dinning table even though we have finished our meal. The feeling being with our family is the feeling that we are happy and we feel that we are relaxed being with them.^_^ Have a happy family unity

I have not heard this saying before. But since a young age, we have always had food together most of the days. Even now in the evenings we have our dinners together. In the mornings and afternoon we can't have it together due to different timings of work. But on weekends and during dinners we have it together.
Cheers!
Ram

this saying was just something I made up, based from what I've seen and observed... It's good that you still find time to eat together amidst your busy schedules..
