When I travel to my home province, I overslept in the bus since our place was no bus stop then I manage to get off the bus and look for chance for a hitch hike. Luckily one truck driver let me in and I went home safe. I know some scary stories though but these are some exceptional cases. Anyway, its a personal choice of pick up some stranger on the road.
Do you pick hitch hikers? Have you experience hitch hiking ? Please do share.

We are not living in a world full of great souls. It is hard to trust anyone and obviously strangers. But these must not prevent our moral responsibility as a human being. At late night hours, if I could find a family in trouble midway, I would definitely pick them up. I have been helped likewise during my duties to a province in Madhya Pradesh. Public conveyance is not available easily there. So, you have no option but to seek for help from the fellow commuters. And they will gladly let you ride on their vehicles. In metro city, like Kolkata, this is very difficult to dream even.

Thanks for reading my response. Yes! In a metro city such kindness may lead to unpredictable incidents.

In small provinces where people know each other and these kind of scenario is often observed, I think its okay especially if you know the person or at least familiar with. But of course this is a NO NO in metropolis, like in India, this also applies here in the Philippines where people in the rural areas need a lift at times and contrarily one would return a favor at times. Thanks friend for your response.

There is no way i would pick up a hitchiker now unless it was someone i knew. I use to pick them up years & years ago before there was so much meaness going on. I always hate to pass people up but i do. It's sad that circumstances keep u from helping someone but u just don't know anymore.

It is very true, these days lot of people are doing some gimmicks just get someone's attention and hitch hiking isnt an exemption. One time, we passed along a very drunk man I guess who is lying in the middle of the road, my friend who drives the car didnt even bother to look at the guy and we just leave him lying the road. Its always safety our lives first, helping others had other form but hitch hiking could be exemptions to some like you, Thanks for the reply.

There's too many cuckoos out there today. We will never know why they need to hitch hike, but as much as possible I wouldn't pick up anyone off the the road--they may be fugitive, a criminal on a run or just someone with an appetite for killing. However, not all are like those things I just listed, there are some that just needs to go home and hitch a ride; we should think of our safety first, not someone elses, I wouldn't risk trusting a complete stranger to go in my car.

It is indeed hard to believe somebody's story easily hence, it is always best to stay in the safe zone. I am also in agreement with what you have said here, we don't know who what are the real purpose of the people who would like to ask for a ride especially these days. As much as many had experiences and ends up in tragic way. I totally understand your point, thanks for the response !

Hitchhikers... I have not pickup any one of them. We don't know them. Or even if we do, if we are not close, I think it's better not to pick them up. I am a lady with a petite body frame, I will not be able to defend myself if they do something "evil" on me. This is the main reason, I am just afraid that something might happen to me... So for safety, I do not entertain them or stop by the road to talk to them. Maybe other people have done, but for me I think I will never do it.

I got your point and if I am in your shoes, I would do the same. Its better to be very careful especially to strangers on the road. Although many are for real but some too are yet demanding, lol. But just a thought, if your experience flat tire on the road would you risk for a hitch hike ?

I don't drive so I don't have the chance. But if I drive in the future, I don't think so. Many people are out there to do harm to others. Like you know, some prost***** holding up their customers... Anyways, it's really hard to tell. Sometimes if you see a person you would just know that person is in need of help for real. Maybe that's what the truck driver felt on you. Just be cautious though.

Well, I don't drive. But in case I'll be driving and see hitchhikers, I don't think I'll let them in. Have heard a lot of like those people and then ending up being holdup by hitchhikers. It's pretty dangerous. But still, I know there are some who really just need some help (like you in your situation). It's pretty hard to tell until you're in the situation.

I don't think that i would ever pick up a hitchhiker. You never know when your safety will be at risk. it is dangerous for everyone involved.

I used to hitch hike together with friends and my brother when we once go to a river and go for a swim. We went home early in the afternoon but no vehicles already and then a truck pass by and he let us ride in the back area until to the highway.
There are scary stories about hitch hiking but the first instinct is always important with this matter.
