I'm on Disability and live in an apartment complex and have lived here this past 7 years. Every Halloween we have a Halloween party that is hosted by one of the residence here. He really does a fantastic job with it. A small bunch of us get together. Some wear costumes and some don't. It's very laid back. Most everyone brings some kind of munchies and sodas and such and we watch a bunch of classic horror movies with Vincent Price, Bela Lagosi, Boris Karlof, Lon Chaney and all the other great actors of the day.
I remember one particular year their was a Halloween costume contest. This is what really touched me abut it. Two residence, also on Disability, donated money toward the prizes. First place was $10, second place was $5, and third place was #3. I think I won second place! Yay!! It wasn't the amount of the gift that touched me. It was the fact that these two residence living on limited incomes like the rest of us put up their own money for the prizes!

I think that is sweet! People living with adversity often have more perspective about money than other people--the pleasure that donation gave them meant more than a movie ticket or an extra half gallon of ice cream or whatever they could have bought. They'll always remember that while any item they buy will not last. Your parties sound like fun!

Thanks, dragon! They really are fun! Most of us are on medication for one kind of emotional problem or another (me included) and that can mean at times that when we get together there may be an argument once in awhile. But, I guess that's no different than anybody else. I've been in places where people were supposedly 'normal' (LOL!) and they had their share of disagreements.
Have a great day, hon!

Wow that is really nice of your neighbor, and I can imagine all the fun everyone has. I throw a party every year for my residents in the retirement home that I work in, we had our party last night, and everyone enjoyed it. We played games and my kitchen aid and my granddaughter, and myself read them scary stories.

It sounds like you and the residence had a great time too! I love horror stories. I belong to a site that airs live old time radio broadasts. NOT tapes!! And it is terrific! I also belong to a few audio book sites where you can listen to stories of all kinds on line.
Thanks for responding, irishmist! By the way, I love your username!
