I am looking to do the best and easiest and most efficient way to save my photos on my PC..copy to dvd for save keeping. I have MicroSoft PIcture-IT and it works gets, however if I loose the program or is isn't compatiable on a new PC..I loose everything. I can back up all I want but if the program doesn't work..I'm sunk. I have on WinXP a folder in My Documents called My Pictures...works similar to Picture (t, but there are more editing options in Picture it. BUt it is easier to find and use for upload from this point. Again, if I loose the PC I loose them all unless I back up...but what if I go to Vista and their My Pictures isn't compaitable to what my photos are on? Any suggestions?

I think the best way is burn it to DVD, the second way is upload to Premium hosting. The folder My Pictures on WinXP is not safe because when time you reinstall your window system, it might be lost, or when your computer had destroy by a virus, it might be lost too. My way to keep my picture is upload to a premium hosting. Try it, It's safety

I store photos on my laptop aswell as theres a few on my wifes. I also store them on dvd discs and on the internet on photo storing sites so theres back ups if i ever need them. I would hate to lose any of my precious family photos because its not possible to get them back once they are gone is it.

I always save my pictures to a flash drive that way if anything happens to my pc I dont loose my pics. However I think that as long as the picture is in a JPG format you are ok. I have never had any problems taking my pics from one program to the next. However just to be safe I would save them on a flash drive that way you always have them.

Well just burn(or write) your pictures as it is on a DVD in its native format like jpg, jpeg, bmp or any other format in which those pictures are. In this way, you can view those picture in whatever system you use, whether its a MAC or Linux or Windows, you wont lose your pictures unless you damage the DVD. Also,in this way, you can view the pics on your DVD player attached to your TV. Also, if you want to store those pictures for backup purpose, burn its 2 copies. So, in this case, you always have a copy secure with you in case first one gets damaged or get scratched. Dont use those Picture saving software. Just burn those pics on DVD using any dvd burning software like you burn other data onto dvd.

i think that the safest keeping burning the pictures files on dvd, when we are keep it on pc, afraid that the hard disk broke or viruses. another solution is by uploading the files on the internet (4shared,etc)then make it private if it is necessary.

Thanks to everyone who posted their ways of saving pics. I appreciate them all. I think I will just do the DVD thing...and then I can watch them on TV if I want to. Now... I just need to get the ambition to do such a major overhaul! Thanks to everyone!

I save my pic's on my computer and also copy to a disc. I found a site that I can upload photos too and it's unlimited and free, it allows me to send invitations to my family and they are able to go to that site and view the photos and they can purchase the ones they like if they so choose. I figure this way of my computer and discs are stolen or lost in a fire I have a place that is accessible to me know matter where I am or what computer I'm on. The site I use is shutterfly.com I love it. You can make personalized calendars, or can even have a photo album made, relatively inexpensive.
