I agree they should put some effort into it if they are going to take the time to go out. I don't mind too much if kids put atleast makeup on. There were a few teenagers with elaborate makeup on, not the pretty made up kind but the kind where they really spent hours on the details. And I know some kids in areas don't have money for a costume so make up is more than acceptable as they can buy that at the dollar store.

Make-up is better then then not being able to afford a costume. I rather see that then no costume at all!

I agree, and I don't give candy to those kids unless they have a good answer when I ask where their costume is. I actually had a kid respond with "I'm a homicidal maniac. They look like everyone else." which is a quote from the first Addams Family movie. So I did give that kid candy. But when kids say stuff like "I'm a Phillies fan." it doesn't fly with me. If he had put on baseball pants and cleats with that phillies jersey, he could have said baseball player... And that's fine. But no costume = no candy. I even had a dad once come up to me wearing a princess hat with a princess dress pinned to the front of his clothes. I gave him a funny look and he explained that his daughter was sick and couldn't trick or treat, so he promised to trick or treat for her, but didn't have a costume of his own, so he used hers. It was so funny and sweet that I gave him a candy bar for her, and one for him.

I don't get tricker treaters where I live. If I do I wouldn't know! I am at work when they have tricker treating in the city I live in!
I love the story of the father tricker treating for her daughter! That is a real cute story!
With the no costumes, some kids just don't have the Halloween spirit! It is a shame!

I agree with you on that, if you are going to go trick or treating dress up. But you know what may never know, maybe some kids can't afford to dress up for halloween, but want candy too. That may be the reason why they didn't dress up. But there is always old clothes in closets that could be used as Halloween costumes as well.

I agree with you. I see people wearing just regular clothes holding pillow cases asking for candy! When I was 16 (a little too old to go trick or treating) but I did and I dressed up in an actual costume I got remarks going aren't you a little old to go trick or treating? At least I dressed up! Gosh.. and when I was home last year (19 then, now 20) there were people older than me going trick or treating and not dressed up!)

You know when a person carries a pillow cases around and aren't dressed up their are out only for the candy! That is sad! At least dress up no matter the age! I have not seen adults trick or treating before by themselves! Only with their kids!

As I was passing out candy today a lot of the trick or treaters were not wearing any costumes! They were just wearing ordinary clothes and I was messing around with some of them and I asked them what they are supposed to be and they were like I'm supposed to be myself!
