Some people can quote the bible left and right yet do not really practice it

Some people are experts of quoting bible verses etc. They can
tell you the exact place in the bible where you can find the remedy
for your problem but putting it into practice is always conditional.
Isn't living the bible more important.
Some people don't have good memories for citing but they really do
put into practice what they read.
Don't you think being able to quote this and that verse can lead to pride?

Oh yeah, and what is really bad is when they mis-translate it. I be no means know the Bible that well, but I do know that some things were not translated correctly and yet when I speak to some people about this, they will go on and on, quoting this passage or that passage and I am like, whatever...lol And because they don't have the correct translation, they "think" they are following the Word, but they are not..

I hear you..EVery one is an authority on the bible.
Some go so far as to say..only certain people can tell you
what it means.. I believe .that God will speak to each
soul through the bible as He sees fit ..and each soul
will understand as God wants them to .. but that understanding
is not for the next person but for the Individual

In my opinion, it is actually dangerous to quote so much from the Bible and do not practice it because the more we know about the Bible the more we are liable for not living it. The Word of God is given so that we have a guide on how we should live on earth and not just quote it.

You're very right. There are a lot of people who have a good memory for quoting scriptures, and they look for every opportunity to slip in a scripture here and there! That's not the way to do it.
I think it's important to memorize scriptures, even if you don't know exactly where in the Bible it is. This is for yourself, so that when you are faced with a challenging situation, you can remember what God has said about that situation and do what God said to do. If you don't know the Bible, you'll always need someone to pray for you instead of praying for yourself.
We need to take what is in the Bible and apply it in our own lives so that others can see it. It does nobody any good to quote them scripture after scripture, but when they see you, you're acting contrary...

I think quoting pet christian phrases can turn folks off too.. seems kind of exclusive too, rather than inclusive..

Also, when people quote pet Christian phrases all the time and out of contest, it makes the word of God so common and clichéd. They take away the beauty and essence of what God is actually saying.

hi Littlefranciscan,
I think some people spend so much time quoting the bible as they understand it and trying to correct others that they accomplish little else in their lives and that includes whatever they are trying to accomplish by wandering around quoting the bible.

I agree .. when one is always looking outside
one can hardly see what is going on inside.

I really hate that. They do all kinds of things the Bible specifically says not to do and then goes and preaches to someone else about the bad or wrongs that that person does. I am dealing with that right now with a family member. I just can't understand how he can do the things he does and lie constantly to me and then turn around and preach God and christianity and how wrong others are for not doing the christian thing! Drives me insane! But God told me.... "Let it go...he answers to me, not you" so I am really holding on to that and it helps alot.

I understand your frustration.. we can only hold on to God's word and hope
that we are holding on tight enough and that we don't become too judgemental
of others who are so misled.. they haven't yet receive the grace to see thing
in God's light.

I so much agree with you. They're called hypocrites in the Bible. What Jesus taught while He's on earth is to live God's word and just quote it, right? Only a humble heart could live God's word. We must follow Jesus because He humbly lived on earth.
Quoting the Bible alone will lead us nowhere unless we truly apply it in our lives.

Well Satan quoted the bible to Jesus..So the ability to quote scripture
is not a guaranted of anyting not even of being able to preach it..the
best assurance we can cling to is our lives.. that they show what we
believe.

Amen!! So true So true So true, and it is really Sad. I know someone who sits there reading the Bible and at the same time her choice of language is worse than most people who never attend church. I have always wondered how a person can be so knowledgeable and read the Bible and quote scripture, but at the same time not want to live it. I know we are will fall short on some things but when you constantly are going against what you read how can God ever bless them for sure?

I have totally agree with you on this. I had seen this.... I did see friends of my preach... quote the marvelous verses of bible beautifully but when come to action... not really put into practice.
On the other hand, those not really how to quote neither remember the verse but understand putting it into reality and practice and in action than words! Both thumb up!

sometimes the best versed in the holy bible are not
those ontop of the soapbox shouting verses at people; but,
the simple unasuming people who make the bible their every day
way of life.

You are very right. What matters is for one to live the Bible. Quoting verses, as you say, may lead to pride, and can be quite intimidating to those around you, as they may feel as if they are being left out as far as Christian doctrines are concerned. Bottom line: living the Bible is much more fulfilling.

People have free wills..if they want to hear the verses of the
bible they can either..read them to themselves or stop by the
church and have thme read to them.. God forces His words on
no one; and neither should we.
