Hi fellow myLotters!
Are any of you members of this site? For those who don't know, it's a site in which people post different projects and you can 'bid' on them. It's a really nice way to get some work if you're, like me, a freelancer.
Now, here's the reason of this post: I've been a member of Freelancer.com for a couple of months already and I've bidded on many projects that suit my skills (I'm an illustrator, but I'm also good with languages so I've also looked into some translation projects). However, I never seem to get chosen... many of the project posters ask for people that already have some feedback, for example, but how am I supposed to get such feedback if nobody wants me to do their projects? (I guess that also happens a lot in real life, so to speak). So, I was wondering if any of you guys that are members of the site had any advice or tips on how to increase my possibilities of getting chosen for projects, or about the site in general.
Thanks a lot in advance! :)

Hi, I am also a member of Freelancer but like you nobody choose me to work on their project. I continuously received projects on my email and bid on few jobs. I saw that there are more than ten bidders so it would be hard to be chosen. Last week I received a message from a project requestor in which I place my bid on and he wants me to sign up in one particular home based site. I thought he has already a project for me to do but he diverts me to a site in which I am already a member a few days ago. I am not active in the site though, I just gave time to Amazon Mechanical Turk and Mylot.

Really? That must be kinda annoying, if they want you to sign up for some other site. I once got a reply from one of the employers, they wanted me to do a sample translation but in order to be able to download the file I was supposed to sign up for some offers... needless to say, I declined.

Hi!
As far as I know it is a real and legit site indeed, many people have gotten jobs there, I've just been unlucky so far. But feel free to check it out! :)

I joined a similar site and had the same problem. But as an illustrator, you might have an edge that I don't (I'm not an artist). If you were on some site like Etsy.com or something else where you actually drew something and posted it for sale. Then someone bought it and gave you a referal, you might be able to use that. You might be able to do use it a couple of ways. One as a portfolio of your work and the other as recommendations from when people buy from you. Know what I mean? Not sure if that would work, but it's a thought. Also, since you do translations, there may be sites where they give you a test of translating or teaching Spanish as a second language, evaluate and rate your ability from the test or sample. You might be able to use that toward this site, too, but again I'm not sure.
I hope something I wrote helps, but I don't know if it will or not. Take care.

Actually, I'm already a member of Etsy :) I've posted some of my artwork there as well as some items I've made (bookmarks and notebooks)... but unfortunately no-one has really bought anything from me. I'm currently at my boyfriend's place so my store is pretty much closed for 'holidays', but once I get back I want to work more seriously on promoting my store. Hopefully I'll get some sales then!
What you said about translation sites is a good idea, I hadn't really thought of it, but I'll definitely check it out.
Thanks a lot for your advice, and take care!

I am also bidding in data entry jobs but they never seem to choose me, so I gave up already.

That's unfortunate, but I don't want to give up so I'll keep trying.
Thanks for your response!

Oh, I don't have any referrals there... maybe I should work on getting some too.
I don't really know of any other site that's like Freelancer.com though, sorry!
