I can remember reading in school at age 5-6. I started read books on my own when I was about 8 year old.

I suppose I was somewhere between four and five years old when I started reading the most simple of books. Before that my parents read to me on a nightly basis and since then I've read on my own every night before I am able to fall asleep. Reading is a very important part of my life and I hope that I am able to make it an important part of my children's lives as well. I think that reading is something that is very important in our lives.

Strangely enough although I tried to read books while I was in primary school, I only remember finishing "Peter Pan". I tended to lose concentration, then round about the age of thirteen we where temporarily staying with my aunt and she had a book case full of love stories in afrikaans, some which would be consider historical romances that played off in the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa and I finally got hooked on reading and I mean reading. I was attending boarding school and would go to the bathroom after lights out to read. I only started reading english during my last year in high school and now I read mostly english novels.

I guess, the first time I actually read a book was when I am 5 or 6 years old.... Thats when I started my 1st class in school..... And I started reading novels and story books when I am 13.... I love reading books which are either humorous or mysterious.... Strange Combination.... right??....

I started reading when I was four. I remember going through our picture encyclopedia and read pages with picture. As I got older I enjoyed reading more and I started collecting books. Now I'm into novels by Paulo Coelho and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I was pretty young when I started reading books on my own. I do remember being in grade 6 and reading books on my own. By this point, I was reading books for school, but I was also reading books on my own, simply because I wanted to.

Pretty darn young. My parents read to me for awhile and my Mom especially was always encouraging me to read over her shoulder so I could learn to read better. By the time I was in 3rd grade I was reading books by myself and in middle school I adopted the habit of always having a book.

I don't really know how old I was. Probably about four or five. Before I started school, anyway. My parents bought me a lot of books, including a big set called My Book House. It went from nursery rhymes all the way up to excerpts from classics, and that's pretty much what I grew up on. I've always loved reading, and have always had a house full of books. Just wish my kids caught the fever. Neither of them is much on reading.

Not easy to remember... I learned to read when I was 4 and since then I started to read simple comic books and so on. As for the first real book... who knows? Maybe around 7 or 8, but I'm not sure at all.
