Would You Ever Consider A Themed Wedding?

Our wedding ceremony was held in the Planet Hollywood's Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas with only close family in attendance. Once our friends knew where we were getting married the first thing they'd say was, "Is Elvis going to marry you?"
Now, I'm not against Elvis marrying anyone but I just didn't fancy it myself. I preferred to see the Minister in a posh suit as opposed to a white one lol.
I vividly remember seeing pics of Paula Yates's marriage to Bob Geldof. The reason for this was her scarlet red wedding-dress. I absolutely loved it and reckon if I'd met someone decent around that time I would've got married in red too. I am an Aries after all!
So, what do you think? Would you consider a themed wedding? Are you into medieval style weddings, punk weddings, Biker weddings? Have you actually got married already in a themed wedding ceremony and how was it? Or did you go down the more traditional route like me and hubby?

I wouldn't ever choose to have a themed wedding myself, but i know they are popular because alot of people like them. I liked my wedding as it was simple, quiet and small and as me and my wife don't like attention it was good because it was over quicker than a church wedding so we got to be away from all the attention after that.

Yes well spotted. :)
Do you follow Football by any chance? I'll take a guess your Husband likes too.

P.s It's nice to hear someone else also likes a more reserved wedding.

I think - because I got married in my 40s, I was less inclined to have a lavish wedding as, the older I've become the less extrovert I am, so a much smaller wedding was ideal for me (and hubby come to think of it because he's the same), so I like the fact you did that too. I take it that's a Notts County top you are wearing?

I am from Blackpool but have only been to one live game at Bloomfield Road. It was last season in the Championship where they drew 1-1 against (ironically) Cardiff City, who we thrashed in the play-off final. I watch 'Pool on the telly and I was gutted when money-bags Man City beat them recently as Teves's first goal was clearly off-side. I threw my specs case across the room at that point. Not happy but ecstatic at the West Brom victory so back up to 9th now. Whoopee!
I moved from Blackpool in 2005 to be with John in Carlisle and we subsequently got married. He is Carlisle born and bred and I have come to respect his beloved Carlisle United. In fact, until recently, we were both season ticket holders, but, due to the fact we're skint we can't afford them this season, although John still goes without me sometimes. Typical!
On Saturday we shall watch them play Tipton Town in the FA Cup. If we don't win that I suspect Abbot (who loads of people hate but he's still there) shall be sacked..but we shall see! It will be highly embarrassing if we lose, put it that way.

PS to anybody thinking of having a Star Trek wedding, make sure the groom's uniform isn't the red shirt. The guys in the red shirts always die...

Marriage is a once in a lifetime experience so I want as many options as possible. I won't rule out themed wedding if there's any good idea about it and it's unforgettable. What's most important about the wedding is being unique. I will consider ideas from weddings i've attended but I won't copy the exact same way. If possible, I want to plan my own wedding or even better still, my future husband to be to plan it. As both me and my bf are not into any religion, church wedding is definitely out, while traditional wedding is a must. Now, how do I fit in the theme wedding? That's a headache for me.

All I wanted was a traditional, modern (if that makes sense) ceremony and it was too..full of all the right words, it was lovely. The fact that me and hubby looked the part made it even more special because that added importance to the event. If we'd turned up in baggy t-shirts and shorts it wouldn't have had the same impact on our lives!

Our wedding do was a month after we got married and it was for all our friends from the football we go and see on a regular basis. Therefore, it was held at Brunton Park (well, the Sunset Suite to be exact), the home of Carlisle United. We had a buffet and a DJ and most of us spent the night on the dancefloor, it was great! There was the added bonus of my friend from Preston coming with her husband. That definitely made my night as they're both mad as hatters!

My husband and I agreed to a simple, traditional wedding. But I wanted a Morocco theme, the colors are just so great to look at. The hotel where I wanted the wedding to be had such a great presentation of the theme. But when I was about to make my down payment, the cost got so high that I thought I would just stick to the original plan and save for a trip to Morocco instead. ( We are still saving lol)

Awww, bless you both! I know what you are saying about cost. With the pound being so weak against the dollar now (and air travel sky-rocketing in price) I am glad we got married in 2008 as we just couldn't afford it now.
I hope you get to Morocco in some way or other as I agree on the colours, they are spectacular aren't they? It's definitely on my list of places to visit!
Welcome to MyLot!

It's great if couples can get married in castles and cathedrals but that's normally a pipedream for mere mortals like myself. However, I loved our small, intimate ceremony over in Vegas and it was everything we wanted. My wedding dress was the only indulgence really but I was chuffed 'cos there was £200 off it! I didn't buy it in Vegas either..bought it here in England and I'm glad I did as it suited my personality.

You mean like an Aladdin wedding with carpets and Moroccan inspired decor and a genie marrying you? And the ring could be in a magic lamp? Nope, never thought of a themed wedding that way. I prefer more subtle themes when it comes to weddings. I haven't been married yet, but I have thought of a themed wedding idea: Monte Carlo Casino.
But if I really wanted a true "theme wedding", maybe a Kentucky Derby Wedding? lol. Complete with the big hats, southern style tea time and minus the horses (I don't think I want my wedding to smell like the stables)

Well, if it's any consolation, I was actually 42 when I got married and before I met John I thought my chance (if there was one) had come and gone..so you never know do you my friend?
A trip round the world WOULD be very nice, you're so right!

I suppose a theme wedding would be ok if you have and want to spend an extreme amount of money and time on it.
Me, I prefer simplicity. I really can't see spending tens of thousands of dollars on a few hours to feed and water tons of people who couldn't care less for the occasion other than the fact that they get a free meal and all they can drink.
The gifts you get don't even begin to compensate for the money spent...money that could be used as a down payment on a home or furniture.
Maybe I'm being negative, but don't half of all marriages end in divorce? So what good does it do to spend a fortune on a wedding?
Mine was extermely simple...married in a church, wedding breakfast...done. I've been married for over 40 years.
I helped both my kids with their weddings. They were pretty much "traditional" weddings, and both of their marriages ended in divorce.
Maybe there's a lesson to be learned here.

I agree with everything you say. In actual fact, I was a bridesmaid at my cousin Jill's wedding a number of years ago. She got married in a lavish ceremony in church but - even though she had checked the long-range forecast the weather was still rubbish..in June!
Afterwards we all had a rubbish meal in the most expensive hotel in the Town..only for Jill to be divorced some months later.
What a waste of money! She hasn't got married since and I don't think she ever will now.
I've never been a fan of lavish weddings. I know we got married in Las Vegas but, believe me, it was cheaper than catering for a load of people that (like you say) couldn't really care less one way or another. What we did for them was have a party here a month later. No speeches, just a DJ and a buffet. People still go on about how wonderful it was some 2 and a half years on!
As for gifts, we didn't get those either..just money and Homebase vouchers which enabled us to have our kitchen done.
I know one woman who had a party to celebrate her ENGAGEMENT and she got loads of gifts, only for her to split up from the bloke she didn't love in the first place, therefore a wedding was never arranged.
Cheeky mare!
