I have an addiction to short stories or collections of short stories. I really like horror and have read The Book Of Blood by Clive Barker and Nightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King.
Do you enjoy short stories?
Do you recommend any short stories?
Why do you/ do you not like short stories?

I enjoy creepypasta. Ever heard of it? They are short stories (sometimes a single paragraph) written in a style that is guaranteed to send cold chills down your spine. For example, one of the best is "The Hunter" (I heard it was inspired from story by E.A. Poe but I couldn't find anything on that).
But any short stories will do for me, easy to read and enjoyable.

I have heard of creepypasta before but never actually looked it up. I discovered what I know about it in a thread about a character called "the slender man", creepy stuff! Have you heard of Marble Hornets? It is a very interesting and creepy series of videos on Youtube.
I like that they only have so many pages to get to the point and manage to cut to my core. It really helps cut back on the descriptive, page filling garbage.
"She slowly, subtly, glided across the carpet with the grace of a cat. She became ethereal through her continuous movement. When she reached the door she took careful note of the totally irrelevant details that I am about to describe. The floor...."
Gimmie' a break already!
lol I got kids man, I want to read this book not accomplish it!
Thanks for the the suggestion, you have inspired me to actually check it out =)

before, when I had all the time, I very much enjoy reading classical novels by Charles Dickens, Leo Tolstoy, and more. But, these days, I could only find time to read short stories. And, among the short stories too, my preference is comedy. That's more relaxing than tragedies.

this is a wonderful question. I could talk for hours about it because there are so many short stories that I have read and enjoyed. For example, most all of the Sherlock Holmes stories are short stories and who has not read a story about Sherlock Holmes?
Many of Stephen King's short stories as you said, my favorite being the Library policeman which is actually a very long short story but it is not quite a book. HP Lovecraft, another horror writer, wrote only short stories although, like Stephen King's story the Mist, some of his work quite lengthy as well.
The short stories in magazines like Alfred Hitchcock's mystery Magazine, always involve a crime or a murder. The short stories and Isaac Asimov's magazine of science fiction, are really superb and I recommend this magazine to anyone who loves to read the way I do.
I would probably enjoy reading longer works of fiction if only I had more time. So I opt for shorter stories that can be read while I am on a bus or waiting for an appointment.

Sherlock Holmes...I had forgotten.
When I was younger, there was a TV show called Joe Bob Brigg's Monster Vision. Joe Bob would host horror movies, both obscure and mainstream, and make comments before returning to the movies from the commercial breaks. One night I watched a movie called HP Lovecraft's From Beyond. The movie was astounding. I have never been able to find that movie since and HP Lovecraft's other books and movies are...boring, in my opinion. He is praised for his "literary genius" but I think there is too much hype. I would still LOVE to see or own that movie again.
I really need to read The Mist. That is basically all I have to say about that lol.
I have never been too big a fan of Alfred Hitchcock but I think he deserves a second chance. It is just that, when I go to the library, I already have a dozen ideas of books I want to look for =p
Isaac Asimov has always sounded very interesting but no one has directly recommended him to me. I think I may try his stuff next. I was recently told I should look for some Neil Gaiman as well.
Wow, blah! heheh. Anyways, thank you for your very considerate response. It has helped reignite some old interests. =)

wow, really? I am the polar opposite. I think feature length novels drag on too long. Too many pages to describe things my imagination can create with just a couple words.
Maybe it is because of our personal experiences with the novels we have read...

Try "The Bachman Books". Richard Bachman was an early pen name of Stephen King.
