which chatting is best?

I have used some chatting softwares, like mirc etc, but I cannot come to conclusion which chatting software is best? DO u have any experience about the best chatting softwares?

I just use yahoo chat and windows live messenger, but still we have to be careful with the spam that can infected your computer.

I just use Windows Live Messenger on Windows 'cause it's layed out nicely, and I can change my preferences to suit me. If you don't have Windows and you have Linux/Ubuntu 10.10, I use the built in Empathy Internet Messenger. Otherwise, I just use yahoo chat.

I used to use Mirc many years ago as a kid and really enjoyed it but recently have stopped chatting as much as I used to. I enjoy Yahoo chat once in a while as long a sits not full of bots promoting and spewing out stupid things.
