Hi,
You can't actually monetise a blog on wordpress.com they don't allow it. However you can monetise wordpress blogs - you'll need to find either a free host that has wordpress (there's plenty around) or get your own domain and hosting.
If you're interested I actually recently started an email series that goes step by step through setting up and monetising blogs etc - there's a link in my profile.
For me earning through blogs and web sites is a great way to go, if you're prepared to put a bit of time in first

Hi,
There's actually a link in my profile - building your business from scratch - if you go there you can sign up for the free emails (top right of page)those emails cover right from the start - picking a niche, finding hosting (free and paid) getting the best keywords, setting up a blog and/or a website etc there's a page that shows all the lessons so far (though they are limited to see the whole lesson etc you need to subscribe but it'll give you an idea)

If you want to make money with a wordpress blog, you have to have a site of your own, and download the software from wordpress.org. You can't use wordpress.com for income. Hosting is fairly cheap, but you're basically going to have to build your own site if you want to go down that path.
