President Obama is heading to Mumbai. It is expected to cost $200 million per day. I can not find anywhere WHY he is going. Does anybody know the reason for the Deficit enhancing trip? http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/us-to-spend-200-mn-a-day-on-obama-s-mumbai-visit-64106 here is a message board, looks like it might be to discuss economic relations http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1240729/pg3 LMAO! He is busting out the Navy and Coast Guard because he is staying in a sea side hotel. Both Air Force 1s and up to 3000 people. Should we discuss the carbon foot print? Does Mumbai not have phones?

laglen, I think the visit is just inevitable especially when the US is outsourcing much to India. The spending may be exorbitant but like the visit is equally necessary. Anyway, I feel that the banks and corporations in US is just indecent spending those billions meant to rescue them on retreats and exhaustive parties. Phones are definitely available but sometimes it just ain't enough to prove a point. As they say, nothing beats the real handshake and on the ground knowledge. Besides, this is India. Hope you do not take offense here.

Your post is not offensive at all, I agree the banks are out of line as well. I just dont think that such royal treatment is necessary. I dont think he should be put up in a motel 6 but I do think he should be mindful of other peoples money.

sky, thank you for your response, it is the "other side of the coin" and I appreciate it. I may not agree with it. Frankly I am sick of hearing well, this person/ group did it as an excuse. I understand that you are not excusing but merely giving a legitimate reason for it. At least your explanation makes sense. Thank you again.

laglen, Here's the thing about the "royal" treatment, I think you will recall the Mumbai massacre that recently took place and agree with me that all is really quite necessary. I am sure if an established hotel like the Taj Mahal could be taken down, I don't think you would want to go for a motel especially when you are a head of state. Have you been to Mumbai? Well, I can assure you that you would not want to stay in a motel there and it will not even be the last thing on your mind. IMO, I felt that his visit is really necessary on all counts starting with investor confidence especially after it had been devastated by the Mujaheddin recently. The amount of outsourcing your country had with India, Obama's visit is really a statement to the operative cells to think twice about attacking an ally of the states. I am sure you are aware of the current and tensed situation which is really dampening or damaging to the world economy. So, I'd say this U$2 billion is worth every cent of it against the monies given to your country's banks and insurance companies who had been nothing but grossly indecent with the rescue monies which incidentally is your money as well. I am glad you did not take offense here, but I'd really like to see the bigger picture on the other side of the bank. If you know what I mean.

People are losing their homes, some are living off the streets, a lot have nothing to eat and he has the balls to spend that much money? Im not pointing the finger at him only, ours are just as bad here, trust me on that one. They need a course in R E A L I T Y !!! Everyday life, how we all struggle to make ends meet and how utterly ridiculous it sounds to us when they spend that much money when they could very well do a video conference and it would do just as well. That amount of money for a mere trip is blowing my mind. It seems lately that everything our governments do has to cost millions and billions. What happened to thousands? Nobody is using these number anymore......or hundreds?? Hey what ever happened to hundreds??? Oh I know, its our PAY!! Thats in hundreds.....so how come they can afford to spend BILLIONS then? I think someone had a wake up call last night. Will it change his plans to spend all that money? Nah.....he doesnt really care, he'll step out of office with a juicy pension, then he'll be called to give speeches and make even more money. They have NO idea what its like for us....the little people! SO go on Governments...spend my money until Ive had enough. Not sure what I'll do when it comes to that though. Sometimes I envy people living on welfare.....nobody is spending THEIR money!! Hey, come to think of it....it sounds like what governments do....they ARE on welfare!!!

Wow, that's a lot of money. I'm certainly not a fan. How does this compare to the costs of previous presidents though?

If other American Presidents have spent this much on a trip, that is just more of a reason President Obama should not. That is, of course, if one is to believe hope, change, no more politics as usual, going against the status quo, being more fiscally responsibile and in tune with everyday suffering Americans, etc, etc, etc... Whole lotta loot here. Yikes.

What makes these types of stories even more interesting is that, when asked the first 108 times, people here supposed to give answers do not give the right answer. It's almost as if they want people to pick up on a false story and run wild with it so they can then come back with a BOOYA moment. The vid won't load on my POS flash player, but I did catch an article about it. Supposedly, a low-level government schmo told an Indian reporter something that got twisted into something else. Well, as far as I still know, this low-level government schmo has said more than our high-level government schmos about the trip's cost. But on a real note: I'm thrilled if it's not going to cost all that damn money. Having to spend so incredibly much on war is unfortunate enough. I cringe at the thought of going deeper into the red due to do-nothing vacations (err...whatever).

Short answer: Because he can. (famous Bill Clinton's words re his Lewinsky scandal) This country has given an illegal alien a mandate and a power to ruin us. Remember, the is not the president, so it's all the more ludicrous. If we had voted for the Pillsbury Doughboy, would he have been declared president? So why do we engage in this self-flagellation? The Pillsbury Doughboy would not do this because he does not hate America and want to bring us to our knees.

Well if you just got "crunched" at the polls, wouldn't you want to be on the other side of the world for awhile? Unfortunately, though, we're again paying for yet another "excursion". As for the carbon footprint...it's big, very big, very very big... And yes, Mumbai has phones. I just talked to someone from there trying to get my computer fixed...
