Why is my Dog Throwing up

My Yorkie has thrown up two mornings in a row, one week before Halloween and then again this morning. On her afternoon walk today, she almost threw up again but a squirrel distracted her and that was that.
I know Yorkies have sensitive tummies although her diet hasn't changed.
Only thing different in diet is probably more homemade doggie peanut butter cookies than normal. She's been having those cookies for the last year with no problems before.
At night, before bed, she does a few tricks for her cookie.
I am going to cease doing that and see what happens from here on in.
She is up to date on her vaccinations.
She does frequent the dog park several times a day and
had Advantage put on last month on the 20th.
This is the second year we have used Advantage.
Only for a few months during High Flea Season.
I can't think of why she may be throwing up.
At first, I thought it was because she was hungry since I had been cutting back on her food a bit.
When she vomits it is like bile almost. No solids.
I started feeding smaller amounts more often.
I cook for her and she free feeds on her kibble.
She is playing, eating, potty and sleeping normally.
She could stand to drink more water but that is normal for her. She will drink when she is thirsty.
Any and all ideas as well as thoughts would be most appreciated.
If she does it again she will be going to the doctor.
She just had her annual check up last month and she was slated Good to Go.
I am concerned and borderline worried.
Like to hear what you are thinking. Thanks.

I have the same problem with two of my dogs from time to time. It's usually just bile. I've found peanut butter is very rich for dogs. A very small amount of PB has always been ok but one of my dogs actually broke out in hives. I had given her a little more than usual. I wouldn't worry about two maybe three times in as many days. When everything else is fine she is probably fine.
Have a great day!

Thank you very much for your response.
My Dad tells me not to feed her peanut butter but I do because she really likes it.
I agree that it can be rich so perhaps I should hold back on feeding her as much as I am (by way of her cookies).
I wouldn't want her to break out in hives as well.
For the most part I feel that she is more okay than not simply because her activity is normal, except for the throwing up.
Thank you for your reassurance. Appreciated!
Cheers.

PS: Do you have any idea why a dog throws up bile?

Watch her when you put her outside and see if she is eating grass. Dogs eat grass when their stomach feels upset. The grass makes them throw up the bile. My dog does this every once in a while. I have read that it means the dog needs more fiber in her diet. I started mixing some cooked rice in with my dogs food. It seems to help a lot. This is just one idea, but maybe something you can try.

Hello and Thank you.
I give her cooked brown rice in the morning with her breakfast.
I haven't seen her eating grass in the mornings that she has thrown up but you are correct. Dog are known to eat grass to sooth an upset tummy. I have seen my dog eat grass but not lately.
I have heard of friendly active bacteria culture for dogs.
Perhaps I may pick some up and try that.
Thank you kindly for your response.

Yes it is scary when my little Pooky gets puky, lol. Not funny however, she seems to be doing better as I have switched up her feeding a bit and light on the snacks before bed but definitely snack before bed is what seems to be doing the trick. She isn't so hungry in the morning and I think i why she was throwing up.
Thanks a bunch for responding.

Lol, I agree, Thank you squirrels.
Plus I figure that since that being distracted from the squirrels seems to help her get over her bout of nausea, it must not be anything too serious, say such as a virus or such.
I can tell you for sure though that it sure has me somewhat worried.
It is no fun having a Yorkie who isn't feeling up to par.
Just to let you know, I have switched up her diet somewhat, feeding smaller portions more often, which she loves and no more peanut butter cookies before bed time. So far so good.
Good to hear from you and thank you for your response!

Hello Pat, thank you for stopping by!
I have to agree with you. I feel that the cookies probably had a lot to do with it.
I recall a vet once telling me that too much of anything is not good. Moderation = okay.
So easy to make our babies sick with too much love. I must curb my urges.
She is so dang cute at cookie time.
The recipe is brown rice flower with oat bran and such. It can be made with one egg and cheese too instead of peanut butter but, she Loves peanut butter.
We have cut way back on them there cookies. It is what is best for her.
I am also feeding her smaller portions of her regular food, more often.
All is well, so far.

Has anything else changed in her routine lately? If so, it might be her nerves. When my kids went back to school this year, we had only had my puppy for about a month. SO, her day was filled with someone being home most of the day. When the kids went back to school, she had to learn to spend more time alone during the day. I could get her to take a drink, but she wouldn't eat because her tummy was upset, and as a result, she got a bit weak. I ended up dipping the tip of my finger into sugar and allowing her to lick it off. THis did the trick, and 20 minutes later, she was back to herself. I am not sure if this is anything that may help you, but it might be worth a shot because if her sugar level is a bit low, it could make her ill.
Another thing that comes to mind is that she has a cold, the flu, or allergies. Has anyone in the household been sick?

Hello Lynne, you are a wise woman.
I appreciate your generous response.
Yes, I have not been well really for about three weeks.
I have some weird eye thing going on. First the doc said it was allergies but I said I think not so I did antibiotic drops for fives days. It's still bugging me so back to the doc. Now I see specialist in two weeks. Other than that, I haven't been so ill that I have a fever or can't get out of bed, no.
As for a switch up in routine, yes but not so much hers as it is mine but trust me, I understand how that can impact her little self and have taken a look at that as well.
There could be some correlation for sure.
It is said if your dog seems off, take a look at your own lifestyle, what's going on or is different than the norm.
Well I have been looking and there were somethings happening that was taking up a lot of our time, cutting into our quality time together, on a daily basis. That lasted for about a week. The week she threw up twice in one week.
That has since changed and we are back on track that way.
Since I have switched up her diet, no more of her home made peanut butter cookied before bed but definitely a snack before bed that consists of her favorite vegetables and as much kibble as she wants.
So far so good!
As for your dog and the sugar.
Since your dog is still a pup, it is important to have them well nourished so to avoid any hypoglycemic reactions, in which case a bit of honey or maple syrup rubbed on their gums will help.
Blood sugar is a big deal. My girl is three and I thought we were past that. She wasn't showing any other signs that would suggest low blood sugar however, I do feel that she was throwing up probably because too many cookies at night before bed but possibly just not enough of the right nourishment so in the morning she was hungry. Too hungry to get her through her first walk in the park and home again, where she would then throw up.
All is good now. Just hope it stays that way.
I feed her smaller portions more often now as well and she love that!
It is something I will keep an eye on for sure.
A visit to the vet is easy enough, if necessary but I do think she is going to be just fine.
Thank you kindly for your response.

Oh poor baby. Im so sorry she's throwing up like this. I have a 6 yo Black Labrador and he has such a sensitive tummy. We had to stop feeding him his regular good. We went to the vet, he recommended "horse meat" (I know!!) It went well for a few weeks, then he started again.
Its some kind of food allergy OR if you use "SWIFFER" to clean your floors, that might be the problem. Ive stopped using those now.
At moment, he has 2 kinds of food, canned and dry that we mix together and he seems ok. Whenever I give him pork or beef, he throws up. I hate not giving him any of the food I eat sometimes when he's begging, but I shouldnt. Ill give him a tiny piece of bread. He cant eat any cheese, dog treats (I give him "tea social cookies" for when he's a good boy.
Id cut down on the peanut butter and give him his food as you normally do. It could be the Advantage also. We use Sentinel I think. He starts taking them in May till November.
We do worry about our babies, dont we?
Let me know how she goes and if you find whats the problem.
Bless you and her !!

Hey EvrWonder! How are you doing? It's been awhile since I've seen you on here. I've been away for a while myself, though. I started back in October. Anyway, getting to your problem, I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry I'm not much help. It might be the peanut butter that's making her throw up. I noticed you said you were thinking about cutting back on it. My dog just eats whenever she's hungry and I only feed her Purina Dog Chow. I'm glad to know that your dog is leading a normal life otherwise. If she's throwing up bile, that sounds pretty scary to me. The only thing I know to suggest is take her back to the vet. I sure hope she gets better. Hugs!

Nice. I am really happy for you that you finally got that Stallion switched out with a horse that is more gentle. Mamma looks beautiful and gentle soul. Thanks for sharing.
I'd be checking with the lady with the child that rides once a week at the therapeutic riding as this sounds like your best bet.
Have a tonne of fun! If I lived closer, I'd be there everyday ;)
Just walk her, talk with her and get on her. Maybe just call someone and tell them you are going for a short ride and that you will call them in say two hours and do call. That way, if they don't hear from you, they will know to come looking, right? Good idea. That way you and your horse can stay focused on each other and have fun together. Bond. Go for a ride and enjoy!
Quarter horses are usually nicely tempered. It is unlikely that there will be any issues at all.
Dry eye syndrome? Does the caruncle in the corner of your eye ever swell up and get red?
It still feels like something is in my eye, off and on. I am still waiting for the specialist appointment.
Roxy is doing better, no more throwing up but .... Friday morning she woke with a swollen gland. Off to the doctor, again and she has a small ear infection. Good grief! She is on the mend from that now as well. Poor little thing. That was even more nerve racking.
I am NOT at all even considering that the throwing up and the swollen gland are related in anyway what so ever. Normally she is a healthy, full of life pup. Just a run of bad luck. She will be fine. Has a long life to live.
Great to hear from you! Cheers.

Hello Cyrus! Good to hear from you. Things are okay, I have a weird eye thing going on though. Been about three weeks. Been to doctor twice now going to specialist in two weeks if it doesn't clear itself.. Dang.
Otherwise all is well.
My baby is doing awesome now that she isn't throwing up any more. Not since I switched up her diet some and stopped feeding her what was obviously too many peanut butter cookies before bedtime.
Scary is right. The littlest oddity in her behavior and I am on it like white on rice.
I think we have solved the problem right there, with backing off on the peanut butter cookies I make for her.
I am keeping a close eye on her and the vet is only a phone call away.
Wouldn't ever hesitate there is she is not well, in the least.
Hugs to you as well and hope that life is treating you good.
Welcome back n stay in touch! Cheers.

I'm glad to know that your dog is doing better! I know you were really worried about her! I would be, too, if it were my dog. My dog has only thrown up one time since I've had her that I remember. I don't know what could have made her sick because I didn't feed her anything unusual. I know that dogs do eat grass a lot and it's possible she could have eaten something outside that didn't agree with her.
I'm sorry to hear that you have been having problems with your eye. I hope it does clear up because problems with your eyes can really be aggravating. I have dry eye syndrome and that's no fun at all!
I've gotten a new horse since I last talked to you! This is her in my avatar, as a matter of fact! I have some more pictures of her in my profile if you would check them out. Yes, I finally traded that stallion I had for a mare about two months ago! She's 19 years old and her name is "Mamma", lol! Would you believe I still haven't ridden her yet, though,? You see, I live here alone and I want somebody to be here to watch me the first time I ride her just to make sure everything's going to be all right. The man I got her from said she's very gentle and he also said that if I can ride the horse that if I can ride the horse that I ride at the therapeutic riding center that I should be able to ride Mamma. I've always been a little bit leery about getting on a different horse for the first time and I just want to be on the safe side. My nephew said he would come out and watch me one day when he doesn't have to fly anybody anywhere (he flies a small plane for a living and he flies people different places). It's been a while since I've heard from him and I'm getting anxious to ride her. There's a lady who brings her little girl to the therapeutic riding center for riding lessons once a week and she said she would come out and watch me one day if I just give her a call. I might call her oneof these days.
