For me Deepavali is all about celebrating with the family. The sweets and snacks and going to people's house and meeting them is what makes Deepavali so special. As young kids crackers was one of the highlights, but off late I have grown out of it though I do burst some crackers for my son. So what is Deepavali for you? Cheers! Ram

Yes, i am a Hindu and a proper Maharashtrian . However, Diwali for me means No work and No money. I don't have a family , hence diwali is just a waste of time energy and money for me . Its a proper Indian mentality that whenever a festival nears people tend to back-off or take a rest from their work , which pisses me off . I mean why do you need to have a reason to take a break from work , and that too for a really long duration ? Isn't it the real reason behind India's poverty ? No hard feelings , but i in fact think all these festivals are just good for nothing .

What you are missing in your analysis is the social aspects of festivals. Now a days organizations talk about team building activities and bonding events. But in India for centuries we have had these festivals which ware bonding events when the whole family comes together. People visit each other and talk to each other and socialize!! This is something that is being missed these days as families are becoming smaller and they are loosing the value of these festivals. Cheers! Ram

Hi ram, For me Deepawali is the festival of lights. I had decorated my home with flower garlands and kept ‘diyas’ everywhere in home (inside and outside). I love to watch the homes decorated with diyas in the evening time. It is really beautiful to watch the lights. Hope you had a wonderful Deepwali. Belated deepawali wishes to you.

Happy Deepavali! I do not celebrate Deepavali. To me, it is another holiday welcomed as it means no need to work!

hi, Deepavali was a festival i used to look forward to when i was young. i said i used to, because festivals have no importance in my life now. they are just days when i have more work and no enjoyment. marriage has put a full stop to all my childish indulgences of late. My last diwali i celebrated was in my aunts house just before my wedding was recorded by my aunt, and i'm thankful tat she did tat, cause i just have to rewind my memories and enjoy now. after 4 years of no celebration, u kind of get used to it :( well, i used to think one can still indulge in their favorite past times after marriage, but unfortunately i have been proved wrong. its not that i just dont have any good memories after marriage, but my tastes had to be changed in order to enjoy current situation. i'm waiting for my kid to grow up a little, then may be even i can play along with her as a kid again :)

Yes, once you have kids who are of right age, you get a chance to relive your childhood. Cheers! Ram
